Hey @madpotters, yes the lost children shrine was saddening.
The pink blossoms are from the sakura tree. There are some around So. Cal too, but they are not as revered as in Japan.
Its gorgeous! Reminds me of the cherry blossoms on the east coast.
That is exactly what they are. In fact the ones in DC were donated to the US from the Japanese government.
