Collecting souvenir magnets from our Japan trips

in japan •  last month

What souvenirs do you buy back when on a vacation or visiting a new place? For us, we love to collect magnets from the different attractions that we visited in Japan. Here is what the metal door of our store room looks like. The magnets are arranged to form the dragon shape of Japan, with Hokkaido at the top and Okinawa at the bottom.

Magnets are sold in most souvenir shops in popular destinations in Japan, each ranging from around 500 yen to 1000 yen. We had collected more than 40 of them but were missing places, either we forgotten to buy or we just couldn't find any magnets that signifies.

Here are the closeup look. Asahikawa is the northern most part of Japan that we had been to, we definitely want to visit other areas like Wakkanai or Abishiri in the future.

There are just too many landmarks in Tokyo so we are only displaying the famous Tokyo tower, skytree and Mt Fuji.

Kansai and Hyogo area. Missing alot of magnets here for places like the Amanohashidate, Itsukushima torii gate and Hiroshima area. If you are visiting these areas, please help us to buy some magnets!

Kyushu and Okinawa. Kyushu is one of the top areas that we really wanted to further explore in the near future. We had been to Fukuoka twice but didn't spend enough time to visit the southern parts of the island. Must go back, soon.

Do you collect magnets or any other souvenirs from your holidays? Tell us about it!

My refrigerator in Thailand has a lot of magnets that got from my relative. When they went to travel and gave it to us.

Haha we used to use the fridge door too, until there are too many magnets and we had to move to a bigger door

I bought one in Kyushu the other year. 100% I packed it in my suitcase, couldn't find it when I got home. "The mysterious disappearance of the Kyshu magnet"

One more reason to go back Kyushu, to buy that magnet again!

That’s amazing!
You know Japan more than I do:))))

·

Haha. We want to know more and go back again

ahaha i've never actually bought any magnets from Japan before! the only souvenir i have is all the yummy food in my belly ahaha

·

Can start to collect something then. I think magnets are great, cos they are small and inexpensive
