we finally succeeded in migrating the game that will never be to version 2.15.1 of unigine which took about two days, weeding out a few hundred errors and then figuring out everything you need to do manually to auto-migrate

so in essence it looks exactly like last time

but its a version number higher, which, eyes on the future is probably "the right way to do it" since if its released by 2150 AD (after the food riots bring down the sun king) its kinda not-l33t to ask players to "please install ubuntu 16 so this thing will run"
