JAHM Whitelist Update & Quality Tips for Curation
The best way to earn tons of JAHM rewards is to make quality posts about Reggae music, Jamaica and Caribbean culture. Easy right? Sounds so simple, just find something in Jamaica to write about it and earn travel rewards. You can also share some new music, post someone else's video, copy the lyrics and write a few sentences about it. Once you make your ReggaeSteem Post, wait for those big upvotes, well it doesn't always happen like that.
JAHM Whitelist is Becoming Manual
That's right! Prior to today, once you made it onto the @jahm.whitelist, you automatically received up to 7 Irie upvotes a week. Not anymore. Now, every post made on ReggaeSteem, ReggaeTube or using the #jahm tag can get a very generous manual upvote from the JAHM Whitelist. I am experimenting will following curation trails and trusted people's eyes but for now, this task is solely up to my discretion.
Read on for Some Tips to Get Upvotes

1. Make Your Cover Image (First Image) Attractive
- We all know the saying a picture is worth 1000 words, this is 100% true when blogging. If you have a low-quality photo that isn't centered, cropped or out of focus people are going to assume your blog is equally as bad and won't visit it. When browsing past 100s of photos, the ones I click on are usually eye-catching.
2. Have a Great Title
- It must be something people want to read about. Think of something catchy (clickbait). Make sure it's accurate if you waste my time or lie about the content that upvote could be a downvote.
3. Write an Attractive Description
- The first 10 to 15 words you write will show up as the description on ReggaeSteem, below is an excellent example by @doitvoluntarily notice how it's to the point and also follows the rules above. Look at their posts, they generally attract a lot of curation. This poster doesn't need to read my tips.
Far too many users waste their description on a [source] (https:/qwertdfsyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnm) it looks terrible. Please do not start your blog off with the first words being a source link.
4. Make it Original
@ocd curates the oc tag for original content. If the photos are not yours, they are not original. If the post is about something generic or popular like Why I love Bob Marley it is not original. If you haven't been there and are using Wikipedia or some other person's blog as a source, it is definitely NOT ORIGINAL. Of course, you can write about cats if you are not a cat, but make the post unique, give the reader something new.
5. Add Value for The Reader
Make us laugh, smile, entertain us or teach us something new. Grab your audience's attention. Your post has to be cool, well written or full of information. Rewording something you found on the internet is not adding value unless you are improving it or adding a significant amount of value. Sharing something even with sources does not get one an IRIE upvote unless it's new and amazing. Your posts should have a point.
6. Engage Others
Can't stress this enough. Comment on other's blogs, manually curate (upvote), Resteem, spread your name to people on and off of Steem. Engaging is networking the more you engage, the more you will be engaged.
7. Tag Appropriately
If you only use popular tags your post will quickly be buried under 100s of other posts that use the same tag. The first 5 tags are used for Seach Engine Optimization so don't waste them on tags that don't classify your post. This post can tag 'tips', 'quality' and other unique tags as it will ensure people can easily find it in a search and will be drawn to my blog for all the right reasons. Please don't tag 8 different tribes, it probably won't pay out big in any of them.
8. Proof Read
We all make mistakes and typos. My grammar is far from perfect and sometimes the flow is terrible, we repeat words and use poor punctuation. Avoid mistakes and write as best as you can. Preview your post to make sure the links work, it looks nice and reads well. If you are practicing English keep it short and simple. Don't expect much if you rely on Google Translate for 100% of the work.
TLDR: Improve your Blogging Skills and earn more JAHM
The purpose of this post and the JAHM Whitelist is to improve the overall quality of ReggaeSteem. I hope to see better trending posts and want to help you earn more Steem and JAHM. Hope you found this valuable. Good luck and may you collect many JAHM Rewards.
These are really good ideas.
6. Engage Others
Very important.
People need to remember it's not about quantity, it's about quality. Few people who have to post 1X or 2X a day are consistently posting topnotch stuff.
The hope is that more people comment, I upvote almost all meaningful comments on my blog. There are posters here who have never set foot in Jamaica and post about places and experiences in Jamaica. It would be better if they stuck to the comments or wrote about things that don't require a first-hand experience in a specific location.
Even mediocre posts take a couple of hours. Longer if you are using your own photos and making original content.
I would rather have posts about people's real experiences or ideas, even if they are a little rough around the edges. I find the perfectly executed internet-researched posts a little boring. I really enjoy @babarakas43 posts about cooking - the saltfish fritters and roast breadfruit especially. I'd love to hear more about @mariluna's life in Venezuela: I guess Venezuela is part of the Caribbean?
Absolutely, this is a blogging platform so many prefer reading about experiences. Some write essays and offer opinions but they better be unique.
Venezuela is in the Caribbean but so is some of Britain, France, the USA, etc. It's more of a cultural thing than that of geography.
Great, so that brings me to the next thing I've been thinking about ... what is the purpose of the blogging platform in relation to the other aspirations of reggaesteem to build the Jamaican tourism and music economies?
The blogging is a way for people to earn rewards while sharing their stories about travel and love of Jamaican culture. I won't be upvoting anyone selling Jahm or strictly going for a high ROI, this isn't supposed to be a way to earn a living IMHO. Ideally JAHM should be for Jamaican culture and Reggae fans.
I guess the ideal would be wide distribution of the jahm token into the hands of people who are going to spend it in Jamaica or on goods and services originating from Jamaica.
Good to see the whitelist doing well and growing.
What made you change the way you're going about curating posts?
Automatic curation is not right, nor is front running manual curators. Some of the best Steem Curators consider it rewards abuse to only upvote the same 10/20 people. When there are only 10-20 posts per day, it's not apparent but it will be if/when hundreds start posting. It's best to reward anyone producing quality content, not just friends, whales and whitelist members.
I also feel that quality has plateaued here and am on a mission to improve it the way Steem intended to operate, through Proof of Brain.
Hi Crypticat. Could you please read my comment on Joses Windsurfing post, and let Reggaesteemians know, that they should not only present their post "nice" like you mention it here, first and formal they should write about what they know!
In my humble opinion, it takes a lot of credibility away from Reggaesteem posts, sounding like a cheap travel agency , talking about stuff they have never experienced, and therefore a lot is simply not true..!
I might not have the time to create the longest posts, but mine are 100% authentic and original, and self experienced.
Thank you.
Enjoy your sunday ;)
Original posts are always the best. Unauthentic posts that haven't been commissioned won't be getting any love from this cat.
You are the real deal. Please share more about your DJ adventures in Jamrock!
Respect. Give thanks, Crypticat.
Yes, i will share more...let's talk about the future.
First i need to connect with y'all on discord, to talk
about some things... which is the right discord link, Cat?
And how does that sound to you...:
The New Reggaesteem Mixtape,
mixed by DJ Luca1777 and hosted by Dmillz! ;)
I hope he sent me them vocal files already :p
Go to https://www.reggaesteem.com/ and click ways to connect. The general discord link is there.
@crypticat, Good wishes from my side and i want to appreciate your decision to making JAHM Whitelist now a Manual Curation Ecosystem.
Have a wonderful time ahead and stay blessed always. 🙂
Thank you, it's easy to get JAHM when there are less than 20 posts per day. If we have 100 posts per day, only the best ones will have any visibility. A lot of emphases were placed on how ones post looks on the feed because we don't have time to click on everything.
Welcome and enjoy your time ahead. 🙂
excellent advice, cat thanks
for sharing are very clear and specific greetings ..
No doubt every single point you touch here will be considered.
