Christmas moonlight on our medieval stones
It's always weird - in a positive way - seeing contemporary art, or decoration, or furniture in a very ancient place or building. At least for me. There is an estranging effect in those scenes. But I like them, generally - well if the contemporary additions looks well planned and meaningful, for my taste.
So, when my wife and I, walking in the centre of our city, saw the loggia of the ancient Municipality building illuminated by a "moon and stars" blue light, we wanted to see it closer.
It was a fascinating effect, in the night. Don't you think so? :)
The loggia under Palazzo di Giano is the very symbol of our city, Pistoia (Italy). Ok, maybe those lights look a little too frivolous in such an ancient and historical building. Anyway.
Palazzo di Giano (or Palace of the Elders) was built in the 13th century as seat of the city government - what it still is.
Can you see the ancient rib vault in this "blue and stars" light? ^^
Anyway, a light installation doesn't change a bit of the ancient building. We don't have the guts to really operate over our historic architectural heritage. Maybe it's a good thing, considering the inability of our civil servants. ;)
You won't see ever, in Italy, something like the Louvre Pyramid. ;)
