Il Vivo X20 Plus In-Screen Fingerprint
E' notizia di qualche giorno fa l'annuncio da parte dell'azienda cinese Vivo del suo X20 Plus In-Screen Fingerprint il primo smartphone al mondo ad implementare il sensore di impronte digitali appena sotto il display, così da permettere eliminare i bordi (l'ultima tendenza di mercato) e poter rendere il rapporto di forma dello stesso 18:9, il tutto, risparmiando spazio.
La tecnologia integrata
In stretta collaborazione con Synaptics Vivo integra nel suo smartphone il sensore Clear ID FS9500, capace di emettere, penetrando il display del terminale, un fascio luminoso che colpisce il dito dell'utente e avvia il processo di identificazione. Tale processo è sostenuto anche da un Facial Recognition, una modalità ricorrente negli ultimi smartphone pre-2018.
All'appello delle caratteristiche non mancano:
- un processore Qualcomm Snapdragon 660
- un display Super Amoled, 18:9, da 6,43" Full HD+
- 4 GB di memoria RAM, 128 GB quella interna, espandibile tramite microSD
- doppia fotocamera posteriore da 12MP ed una anteriore da 12 MP
che collocano questo dispositivo in una fascia medio-alta del mercato, ad un prezzo di 3598 yuan, vale a dire €457. Difficilmente il prodotto sarà venduto in Italia.
Non è tutto oro quel che luccica
Il sensore, a dispetto dei concorrenti sul mercato che integrano una soluzione off-screen (sulla scocca), paga un ritardo di 0,6 secondi nel riconoscimento dell'impronta rispetto ai 0,2 secondi che abbiamo su altri dispositivi. A ciò va aggiunto, come dichiarato in fase di presentazione dalla stessa Vivo, che il riconoscimento potrebbe fallire se al terminale vengono applicate spesse pellicole in vetro che potrebbero ostruire il futuristico fascio luminoso. L'azienda ha ovviato al problema integrando, al momento dell'acquisto, una pellicola già applicata di fabbrica al vetro del display.
Il futuro è già qui, però è con chi ha coraggio
Vivo, in questi anni, ci ha abituato ad essere sempre la prima azienda ad implementare soluzioni tecnologiche che, in seguito, cambiano il modo di pensare uno smartphone, nonostante non abbia mai scelto di aprire la vendita anche in Italia. Basti pensare al primo dispositivo mobile con processore quad-core, il primo con display 4K, o ancora, il primo a montare ben 6 GB di RAM. Tutte cose che oggi ci fanno ritenere uno smartphone un vero top di gamma e orientano i nostri acquisti e aprono le porte del futuro. Sì perché, soprattutto con l'implementazione dello scanner d'impronte sotto il display, ci si para davanti quel futuro fantascientifico che abbiamo sempre visto nei film dove ci sono ologrammi, intelligenze artificiali, auto a guida autonoma. Ci stiamo avvicinando parecchio a questo futuro ma lasciamo che sia Vivo, con Synaptics, a prendersi il merito di aver avuto il coraggio di implementare tale tecnologia, nonostante sia ancora acerba, o lasciamo che sia Microsoft a prendersi il merito di aver portato lo scanner dell'iride. In questi anni abbiamo assistito ad una vera rivoluzione tecnologica con l'avvento degli smartphone. Caratteristiche che si aggiungono di anno in anno li fanno assomigliare sempre più a dei computer. Il problema nasce quando dobbiamo attribuire dei meriti a chi porta davvero delle innovazioni e non cambia solo i numeri delle nomenclature con un prezzo maggiore: spesso, l'utente medio è all'oscuro di chi ha inventato una determinata tecnologia che, magari, gli sta cambiando il modo di vivere. Smettiamo di dire che chi ha maggiore spessore e popolarità porta al pubblico sempre la tecnologia migliore. Altrimenti finiremo per sentire altre aziende declamare "il sensore d'impronte più rivoluzionario di sempre".

Vivo X20 Plus In-Screen Fingerprint
A few days ago the Chinese company Vivo announced its X20 Plus In-Screen Fingerprint the first smartphone in world to implement the fingerprint sensor just below the display, to eliminate the edges (the latest market trend) and to make the phone with 18:9 aspect ratio, the whole, saving space.
Technology inside the phone
In close collaboration with Synaptics Vivo integrates in its smartphone the sensor Clear ID FS9500, able to emit, penetrating device's display, a beam that strikes the user's finger and starts the identification process. This one is also supported by a Facial Recognition, a recurring unlock mode in the latest pre-2018 smartphones.
Here are features of this phone:
- a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor
- a Super Amoled display, 18:9, 6.43 inch Full HD+
- 4 GB of RAM, 128 GB internal, expandable via microSD
- double 12MP rear camera and 12MP front camera
placing this device in a medium-high market, at a price of 3598 yuan, namely €457. The product will hardly be sold in Italy and Europe.
All that glitters is not all gold
The sensor, in spite of competitors on the market adding an off-screen sensor, has a delay of 0.6 seconds in fingerprint recognition compared to 0.2 seconds we have on other devices. It must be said, as stated during the presentation by the same Vivo, that the recognition could fail if thick glass screen protectors are applied to the display. That could obstruct the futuristic light beam. The company overcame the problem by integrating, at the time of purchase, a film already applied out-of-the-box.
The future is already here, but it is with those who have courage
Vivo, in these years, has accustomed us to always being the first company to implement technological solutions that, later on, change the way of thinking a smartphone, despite never having chosen to open the sale also in Italy and Europe. Just think of the first mobile device with a quad-core processor, the first with a 4K display, or the first to mount even 6 GB of RAM. All things that today make us consider a smartphone a real top of the range and orient our purchases and open the doors of the future. Yes, because, especially with the implementation of the fingerprint scanner under the display, we will have science fiction future that we have always seen in the movies where there are holograms, artificial intelligence, self-driving cars. We are getting closer to this future but let Vivo, with Synaptics, take the credit for having the courage to implement this technology, even if it is still immature, or let Microsoft take the merit of having brought the iris scanner. In these years we have witnessed a real technological revolution with the advent of smartphones. Features that add up from year to year make them look more and more like computers. The problem arises when we have to attribute merit to those who really bring innovations and not only change nomenclatures' numbers. All at a higher price: often, the average user is unaware of who invented a certain technology that, perhaps, is changing the way of his life. Let's stop saying that those with greater power and popularity always bring the best technology to the public. Otherwise we will end up hearing other companies declaiming "the most revolutionary fingerprint sensor ever" .
