Nell'estate del 2016 gli Oklahoma City Thunder si ritrovarono senza una delle loro migliori stelle: Kevin Durant, dopo la stagione deludente appena conclusa e senza essere riuscito ad arrivare ai play-off con la sua squadra, decise (da free-agent) di migrare verso San Francisco, alla corte dei Golden State Warriors.
Così la società dei "Tuoni" decise di investire tutto sulla sua star Westbrook con un prolungamento stellare che gli avrebbe permesso di guadagnare oltre 26 milioni di dollari all'anno.
I soldi non fanno spesso la felicità, ma in questo caso sì: Russell piazzò la miglior stagione in carriera con una media finale di 31.6 punti, 10.7 rimbalzi e 10.4 assist eguagliano Oscar Roberson nel record di chiudere una RS in tripla-doppia. Tutto ciò gli permise di superare anche il record (sempre di Robinson) che prima sembrava inviolabile: il numero di triple-doppie nella stagione(41).
Westbrook non potè che vincere il titolo di MVP dopo una stagione oltre l'umano.

All this allowed him to overcome even the record (evan this was a Robinson's record) that previously seemed inviolable: the number of triple-doubles in the season(41).
Obviously Westbrook won the MVP title after a season beyond the human.

Partly these statements are true, but the denial came this year: the team was replaced All Star (although the regular season has not been so good for them): Carmelo Anthony and Paul George . Westbrook was not affected in the least by these market movements: also this year he closed the regular season with a triple average double ( 24 points, 11.0 rebounds and 10.5 assists ) and thus he became the first player of all-time in a similar enterprise. Obviously the points have fallen, because this year the Thunder has had two more great shooters, but the other figures have remained almost unchanged.

A questo punto la domanda è d'obbligo.
SUPEREROE O UMANO?
Personalmente non saprei cosa rispondere, ma quello che mi esalta maggiormente è poter vedere dove questo campione potrebbe arrivare ed quali record possa ancora infrangere.
Sta di fatto che ogni volta che lo guardo giocare vedo in lui un giocatore in cui si amalgamano potenza e classe. Il lato negativo è quello che guardie di questo tipo hanno vita breve: il loro fisico si logora in breve tempo ed i risultati calano improvvisamente e drasticamente.
Sta di fatto che noi tifosi viviamo alla giornata, partita dopo partita, e finché Russell gioca a certi livelli, noi ci sediamo sul divano e lo ammiriamo.

SUPERHERO OR HUMAN?
Personally I do not know what I can answer, but what excites me most is to see where this player could go and which record could still break.
Every time I watch him play I see him as a player in which power and class mix. The downside is that guards like him have a short life : their body wears off in a short time and the results fall suddenly and drastically.
The fact is that we live the day, game after game, and until Russell plays on this levels, we sit on the sofa and admire him.

Lebron James ormai 15 anni fa ha aperto all'era dei superuomini, mai un essere vivente aveva mostrato un tale strapotere fisico abbinata ad una classe cristallina e da qualche anno anche ad un eccellente tiro da 3. LBJ può giocare i 5 ruoli classici indistintamente e farlo sempre senza abbassare di una virgola il livello e l'impatto sulla gara.
Russel Westbrook è la diretta evoluzione e conseguenza di quello che LBJ ha rappresentato per l'intera lega.
Un playmaker che fa solo il playmaker ma che recita il ruolo con una versatilità, una velocità e potenza debordanti.
I suoi record fanno rabbrividire e ripetere gli stessi numeri 2 anni di fila in 2 contesti tattici completamente diversi fa di lui uno dei grandi della storia, una leggenda vivente. Da solo o con grandi campioni lui i suoi numeri non li cambia, il suo impatto resta devastante. Manca solo lo step finale, vederlo con un anello al dito ma su quello c'è tanto lavoro da fare anche a causa del fatto che in questi anni sono tante, troppe le squadre che hanno un roster pazzesco e un gioco molto più solido e performante di quello di OKC.
LeBron è per me il giocatore più forte di sempre e come molti campione di ogni era (Chamberlain (anni 60) Jordan (anni 90)) sta semplicemente quello che sarà il futuro. Un giocatore con una struttura da lungo (altezza e muscoli) con na tecnica da guardia: riesce a giocare 5 ruoli senza problemi.
Parlo di anticipare i tempi, che in realtà sono già il presente: Ben Simmons è un LeBron giovane. Da rookie quale è quest'anno sta giocando con l'esperienza di un veterano e si sta dimostrando leader a Philadelphia in questi play-off.
