A lot of Italian readers know that I follow @spi-sportit, a @steempostitalia project, where there is the opportunity to support Italian writers who love writing about sports.
This does not mean that we can only deal with sport events, but we can write about sport all around. So there are a lot of topics everyday. And today I want to talk about a basketball player: his name is Mangok Mathiang.
His is not very famous like NBA All-stars, but some days ago I read his biography and it hit me. So today I want to tell you that.

Molti lettori italiani sanno che seguo @spi-sportit, un progetto di @steempostitalia, dove c'è l'opportunità di supportare gli scrittori italiani che amano scrivere di sport.
Questo non significa che sia abbia la sola possibilità di parlare di eventi sportivi, ma possiamo scrivere di sport a 360°. Visto che ci sono tantissimi argomenti ogni giorno. Ed oggi voglio raccontarvi la storia di un giocatore di pallacanestro: il suo nome è Mangok Mathiang.
Non è molto famoso come le Stelle della NBA, ma alcuni giorni fa lessi la sua biografia e questa mi colpì. Così oggi voglio raccontarvela.

This tall boy was born in Africa. In particular he was born in South Sudan in 1992. He lived in his country during the second civil war and he left this place with his family in 2011, when he was 9 years old. They wanted to go away from the war.
Before they moved in Egypt and then they went in Australia to his parents some years ago. He was a tall basketball player and Louisville offered to him a sholarship. There he could improve his basketball skills and forget the bad feeling linked to the war.
Mangok played just a few game in the NBA with the Charlotte Hornets and then he decided to move to the Europe: today he plays in Cremona with Vanoli team in Lega 1.
Before they moved in Egypt and then they went in Australia to his parents some years ago. He was a tall basketball player and Louisville offered to him a sholarship. There he could improve his basketball skills and forget the bad feeling linked to the war.

Questo ragazzone è nato in Africa. In particolare è nato nel Sud Sudan nel 1992. Ha vissuto nel suo paese durante la seconda guerra civile ed ha lasciato quel luogo con la sua famiglia nel 2011, alll'età di 9 anni. Loro vollero fuggire dalla guerra.
Si trasferirono in Egitto prima e poi andarono in Australia dai loro parenti alcuni anni dopo. Mangok era un giocatore di pallacanestro alto e Louisville gli offrì una borsa di studio. Lì potè migliorare il suo talento da cestista e dimenticare le brutte sensazioni legate alla guerra.
Ha giocato solo alcune partite nella NBA, agli Charlotte Hornets e poi ha deciso di trasferirsi in Europa: oggi gioca a Cremona con la quadra della Vanoli in Lega 1.

Mangok is a very religious man, who usually says: "I am blessed. I have to say thanks to God!". In a interview he tells that he did not know Italy before coming here. So his new contract was something like a blind meeting, but he was very happy when he arrived here.
His father decided to remain in South Sudan in 2011. So the two biggest Mangok's dreams were to play in the NBA and meet again his father. As I write before he has already played in NBA and we hope that he will be able to come there soon. About the second dream Mangok met his dad last summer after 9 years.
During the previous years Mangok hated his father, because he thought that that man left his family alone, but during last years he understood that he was wrong and he was very happy to met again his dad.
Basketball and sport in general are beautiful, because they let us know a lot of things about a world that we forget or do not know: about a father and son love and the brutality of the war.

Mangok è un uomo molto religioso, che spesso usa dire: "Ho fortuna . Devo ringraziare Dio!". In un'intervista racconta che non conoscesse l'Italia prima di venire qui; così il suo nuovo contratto fu un qualcosa come un incontro al buio, ma fu molto felice una volta arrivato.
Suo padre decise di rimanere nel Sudan del Sud nel 2011. Così i due più grandi sogni di Mangok furono giocare nella NBA ed incontrare un'altra volta suo padre. Come ho scritto sopra ha già giocato nella NBA e noi speriamo che possa tornarci presto. Riguardo il secondo desiderio Mangok è riuscito ad incontrare suo padre la scorsa estate dopo 9 anni.Durante gli anni precedenti Mangok aveva odiato suo padre, perchè pensava che avesse lasciato la sua famiglia da sola, ma negli ultimi anni capì di sbagliare e così è rimasto molto felice di incontrare suo padre.
La pallacanestro e lo sport in generale sono molto belli, perché ti permettono di conocere molte cose del mondo che non conosciamo e dimentichiamo: dell'amore tra un padre ed un figlio e della brutalità della guerra.
