برج خليفة (Burj Khalifa)
It is a skyscraper located in Dubai (United Arab Emirates). With 828 meters of height, it is the highest structure of the record in history.5 6
Known during its construction as Burj Dubai (in Arabic, برج دبي, Dubai Tower), the Burj Khalifa is the central part of a more complex development known in English as Downtown Dubai, (in Arabic, وسط المدينة, formerly Downtown Burj Dubai, "Centro Dubái", in Spanish), a complex of 2 km2 located near the Jeque Zayed avenue, which crosses the city of Dubai crosswise.7 Construction began on 21 September 2004 and its official opening on 4 January 2010.8 It takes its name by the sheikh and president of the United Arab Emirates, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahayan.
The main architect of the project is Adrian Smith, who worked with the company Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) until 2006. The construction of the Burj Khalifa had an estimated budget of over 4,000 million dollars, which was increased to 20 billion for the full development of the Downtown Burj Khalifa. Part of the cost of the building was financed by Emir Emir Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's family, including his grandson Fuad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, only 20 years old, who financed 25 million dollars of the project.
On July 21, 2007, the promoter Emaar Properties announced that the then Burj Dubai had surpassed the height record that had until then the Taipei 101 skyscraper with 508 meters, becoming the tallest building in the world. This record was not made official until 4 January 2010, since the body responsible for measuring the height of buildings, the Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH in the English acronym), did not recognize the final height of the 'building until the works have been completed.
On 17 January 2009 the Burj Khalifa reached its maximum height (828 meters), becoming the tallest structure ever built by humans, although the promoter of the building did not officially confirm this event.
background
Its designer and creator was the architect Adrian Smith. Initially, the Burj Khalifa was going to have the name "Grollo Tower"; it would measure 570 meters, enough to make the tallest building in the world, and it would be put in Australia. The shape of the skyscrapers had nothing to do with current design. His project consisted of a prism with an illuminated tip.
Later, it was decided to increase the height of the building over 600 m. Once already located in the city of Dubai, its designer and creator decided that the height of the skyscraper would exceed 700 m. It was then that the known model was created. The height has been kept secret, but has been estimated between 800 and 820 m.
In mid-2006, more rumors about the possible height of the skyscraper and the possibility that its height reached 900 meters got up, and came a couple of months after drawing with a calculated amount of 1 311 m in height, but all of them false rumors have been proven. The final height was never revealed, but during the time of its construction it was estimated that it should be 818m, this being denied information when the building reached its maximum height, about 828m.

inspiration
The Hymenocallis, source of inspiration for the Burj Khalifa base.
Dubai held a design competition inviting prestigious architects to design this skyscraper. The winning design of the Burj Khalifa was developed by the company Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, designer of the Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) and other buildings, with the aforementioned Adrian Smith at the front. The design of this tower has three main sources of inspiration:
The project of a skyscraper one mile high (1 609 m), Illinois, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, remained unfinished. The Burj Khalifa measures just over half a mile.
The shape of the base of the Burj Khalifa is based on the geometric shape of a flower, the six-petal white Hymenocallis grown in the region of Dubai and India.
Taking as inspiration the Hymenocallis, the base of the Burj Khalifa consists of a Y, composed of arches based on the domes of Islamic architecture.
Importance of the building
The height of the Burj Khalifa is considerably higher than that of any other building. The Taipei 101 is 508 m tall, and the Burj Khalifa is more than 50% higher than that. Its height is similar to the Taipei 101 building plus the height of the Eiffel Tower. Furthermore, the Burj Khalifa is not only the tallest building in the world. It is also taller than the Tokyo Skytree, the tallest structure supported wirelessly (634 m) and is even higher than the Warsaw Radio Tower, destroyed in 1991, which held the record for the tallest structure built, with 646 m. So it is noteworthy that the tallest structure built by the human being is not an antenna or a tower, but a building, which did not happen after the construction of the Stat
