The history of the most beautiful fountain in the world has very distant origins dating back to Roman times, but it goes through various historical periods and protagonists. We have to come for a moment back in 19 b.C when Marco Vipsanio Agrippa* decided to bring his aqueduct to Rome. Then the fountain was just a child. It will be necessary to wait until 1453 for his maturity, when Niccolò V commissioned Leon Battista Alberti to restore "the crumbling duct of the Agua Virgo".
It was only in 1623 that Urbano VIII commissioned Maestro Bernini to replace the sour fountain with the most magnificent work ever made. But the project turned out to be too ambitious: both died before it was completed.
More than a century later it was *Pope Clement XII's task to turn a simple fountain into a great monument and, to this end, invited the best artists of the time to take part in this ambitious competition. Between drafts, projects and disagreements, the inspiration of the Roman Nicola Salvi was rewarded. The works, begun in 1735, continued until the papacy of Clement XIII, who finally inaugurated the fountain on May 22, 1762 with the final signature of Giuseppe Pannini.
The large fountain covers the entire smaller side of Palazzo Poli for a width of 20 meters on 26 of height. Once again we find the same materials already seen for the construction of Castel Sant'Angelo: travertine, marble are combined with plaster, putty and metals.
Close your eyes, turn away, express a wish and throw your coin ... according to tradition, sooner or later you will return to the eternal city again!

La storia della Fontana più bella del mondo ha origini molto lontane risalenti all’epoca romana, ma attraversa varie epoche storiche e protagonisti. Torniamo per un attimo indietro nel 19 a.C quando Marco Vipsanio Agrippa decise di portare il suo acquedotto a Roma. Allora la fonte era solo una bambina. Bisognerà aspettare fino al 1453 per la sua maturità, anno in cui Niccolò V incaricò Leon Battista Alberti di restaurare “il fatiscente condotto dell’Agua Virgo*”.
Fu soltanto nel 1623 che Urbano VIII incaricò il Maestro Bernini di sostituire l’acerba fonte con l’opera più grandiosa che si fosse mai realizzata. Ma il progetto si rivelò troppo ambizioso: entrambi morirono prima del suo completamento.
Più di un secolo dopo toccò a papa Clemente XII l’ardua impresa di fare di una semplice fontana un grandioso monumento e, a tale scopo, invitò i migliori artisti dell'epoca a partecipare a questo ambizioso concorso. Tra bozze, progetti e dissapori, fu premiato l’estro del romano Nicola Salvi. I lavori, iniziati nel 1735, proseguirono fino al pontificato di Clemente XIII, che finalmente inaugurò la fontana il 22 maggio 1762 con la firma conclusiva di Giuseppe Pannini.
La grande fontana copre tutto il lato minore di palazzo Poli per una larghezza di 20 metri su 26 di altezza. Ancora una volta ritroviamo gli stessi materiali già visti per la costruzione di Castel Sant’Angelo: travertino, marmo vengono accostai a intonaco, stucco e metalli.
Chiudi gli occhi, voltati di spalle, esprimi un desiderio e lancia la tua monetina …secondo la tradizione, prima o poi tornerai nella città eterna di nuovo!

Grazie mille! E la cosa bella di questo progetto é che é anche una buona opportunità per me per essere un po’ meno capra in quanto per necessità prima di scrivere l’articolo devo leggere diverse fonti e farmi una idea di massima. É una cosa molto appagante!
