Viaggio in Provenza - Prima parte/Trip in Provence - First part (ITA-ENG)

ITA. La Provenza è un’esplosione di profumi, sapori e colori. Offre un paesaggio selvaggio e allo stesso tempo delicato e affascinante. Durante i miei viaggi in questa meravigliosa regione francese ho potuto ammirare favolosi campi di girasole che tanto hanno ispirato il pittore fiammingo Van Gogh, distese di papaveri, immensi campi di grano dorato e soprattutto bellissimi campi di lavanda.

ENG. Provence is an explosion of scents, flavors and colors. It offers a wild and at the same time delicate and fascinating landscape. During my travels in this wonderful French region I could admire fabulous sunflower fields that inspired Flemish painter Van Gogh, poppies, huge fields of golden wheat and above all beautiful fields of lavender.

ITA. Nel tragitto che porta da Torino, dove vivo, al sud della Francia, in Provenza e Camargue, il paesaggio cambia continuamente. Il mio solito itinerario vede la partenza da Torino verso il Monginevro, superato il confine francese arrivo a Briançon e poi giù verso Savines-le-Lac, dove c’è il Lago di Serre-Ponçon di un azzurro stupendo. Da qui proseguo per Aix-en-Provence e poi verso Arles e ancora giù verso la Camargue. Durante il percorso fate attenzione agli autovelox, ce ne sono parecchi ma al contrario che qui in Italia, sono segnalati per tempo.

ENG. On the way from Turin, where I live, to the south of France, to Provence and the Camargue, the landscape changes constantly. My usual itinerary sees the departure from Turin to the Montgenèvre, after crossing the French border I arrive at Briançon and then down towards Savines-le-Lac, where there is the beautiful blue Lake of Serre-Ponçon. From here I continue to Aix-en-Provence and then to Arles and again down to the Camargue. During the route pay attention to the speed cameras, there are several, but on the contrary that here in Italy, are reported in time.

ITA. Nella parte più a nord della Provenza ci sono i campi di papaveri e di grano. Se avete la fortuna di trovare una bella giornata di sole, i colori sono ancora più brillanti, il grano è proprio dorato e i papaveri rossi creano un bellissimo contrasto con il cielo azzurro. Il viaggio dura sempre molto più del necessario perché ad ogni campo di papaveri mi devo fermare a scattare fotografie! Naturalmente questi paesaggi li potete ammirare se siete nella stagione giusta, diciamo dalla seconda metà di giugno fino alla prima metà di luglio.

ENG. In the northern part of Provence there are poppy and wheat fields. If you are lucky enough to find a beautiful sunny day, the colors are even brighter, the wheat is golden and the red poppies create a beautiful contrast with the blue sky. The journey always lasts longer than necessary because I have to stop taking photographs at every field of poppies! Naturally, you can admire these landscapes if you are in the right season, let's say from the second half of June until the first half of July.

ITA. Nella zona più a sud ho visto i campi di girasole, più precisamente ad Arles. Qui Van Gogh si trasferì nel 1888 e dipinse alcuni tra i suoi quadri più famosi anche ispirato dai paesaggi della Provenza e soprattutto dai girasoli. La prima volta che abbiamo visto un campo di girasoli, abbiamo parcheggiato ai bordi del campo e ci siamo fiondati a vedere questi fiori giganti, alti quasi quanto me (io sono alto un metro e ottanta!), bellissimi. I campi di girasoli sono affascinanti di giorno con il sole che li illumina e al tramonto quando iniziano a piegarsi leggermente e la luce arancione crea delle sfumature fantastiche.

ENG. In the southernmost area I saw the sunflower fields, more precisely in Arles. Here Van Gogh moved in 1888 and painted some of his most famous paintings also inspired by the landscapes of Provence and especially by sunflowers. The first time we saw a field of sunflowers, we parked at the edge of the field and we flicked to see these giant flowers, almost as tall as me (I'm six feet tall!), Beautiful. Sunflower fields are fascinating during the day with the sun lighting them and at sunset when they start to bend slightly and the orange light creates fantastic shades.

ITA. Per finire vi voglio raccontare dei campi di lavanda. Che dire a pensarci mi commuovo ancora, una cosa difficile da descrivere. Per vederli siamo andati nella zona del Parco Naturale del Luberon, a est rispetto ad Arles ed esattamente a nord di Aix-en-Provence. Ci sono tantissimi piccoli paesi dove viene coltivata la lavanda, io sono andato tra Bonnieux e Saignon in una zona chiamata Plateau du Claparèdes. Io e mia moglie adoriamo la lavanda e a casa abbiamo mazzetti di lavanda secca ovunque e piantine sul balcone, ci piace molto il suo profumo e quando, dopo svariati chilometri, ci siamo trovati davanti ad un campo viola siamo rimasti di stucco. Credetemi, un conto è vederli in fotografia, un altro è vederli dal vero e camminarci in mezzo. Che emozione!

ENG. Finally I want to tell you about the lavender fields. What about thinking about it, I'm still moved, a difficult thing to describe. To see them we went to the Luberon Natural Park area, to the east of Arles and just north of Aix-en-Provence. There are many small villages where lavender is grown, I went between Bonnieux and Saignon in an area called Plateau du Claparèdes. My wife and I love lavender and at home we have bunches of dried lavender everywhere and plants on the balcony, we really like its scent and when, after several kilometers, we found ourselves in front of a purple field we were stunned. Believe me, one thing is to see them in photography, another is to see them from life and walk through them. What an emotion!

ITA. Dopo qualche centinaio di fotografie, finisce questa prima parte del racconto sulla Provenza. In questa prima parte mi sono volutamente soffermato sui colori di questa terra tralasciando tutto il resto, nelle prossime puntate vi racconterò delle bellissime città di questa regione.

ENG. After a few hundred photographs, this first part of the story about Provence ends. In this first part I deliberately focused on the colors of this land leaving out all the rest, in the next episodes I will tell you about the beautiful cities of this region.
