Oggi vi voglio raccontare di una chiesa di Parigi, bellissima e poco nota, si tratta della chiesa di Saint Eugène – Sainte Cécile situata nel 9° arrondissement ed è considerata Monumento Storico di Francia.

Ne ero venuto a conoscenza leggendo un articolo su Parigi e alla prima occasione sono andato a cercarla. Non è stato facile, la chiesa si trova in una piccola strada, Rue Sainte Cécile, vicino a Les Folies Bergère, il noto locale parigino, sembrava non essere conosciuta neanche dai residenti e così abbiamo girato per un bel po'. Quando finalmente siamo arrivati davanti all'edificio, devo dire che un po' sono rimasto deluso, all'esterno è una Chiesa come tante altre, niente di che, ma quando siamo entrati...wow! Uno spettacolo di colori, di vetrate e colonne colorate!

I had come to know it by reading an article about Paris and on the first occasion I went looking for it. It was not easy, the church is located in a small street, Rue Sainte Cécile, near Les Folies Bergère, the famous music-hall, it seemed not to be known even by the residents and so we walked around for a while. When we finally arrived in front of the building, I must say that I was a little disappointed, outside it is a church like many others, nothing special, but when we entered ... wow! A show of colors, stained glass and colored columns!

Come mio solito ho iniziato a scattare fotografie a tutto ciò che vedevo, le luci erano suggestive, colorate dai vetri delle finestre, i lampadari con tante piccole luci illuminavano i legni delle sedie e delle balconate, il soffitto giallo con migliaia di stelline. Le colonne e la struttura della chiesa sono in ghisa colorata, dovunque si guardi è un esplosione di colori.

As usual, I started taking photos of everything I saw, the lights were suggestive, colored by the windows glasses, the chandeliers with lots of little lights illuminated the woods of the chairs and balconies, the yellow ceiling with thousands of stars. The columns and the structure of the church are made of colored cast iron, wherever you look at it is an explosion of colors.

La chiesa è insolitamente dedicata a due santi: Sant'Eugenio in onore di Eugenia, la moglie di Napoleone III che ne decise la costruzione, e Santa Cecilia, protettrice dei musicisti, per la vicinanza dell'antico Conservatorio nazionale di musica. Proprio per questo motivo la chiesa non ha campanile, perché il suono delle campane potrebbe disturbare i musicisti.

The church is unusually dedicated to two saints: Sant'Eugenio in honor of Eugenia, the wife of Napoleon III who decided to build it, and Santa Cecilia, protector of the musicians, for the proximity of the ancient National Conservatory of Music. Precisely for this reason the church has no bell tower, because the sound of the bells could disturb the musicians.

Una caratteristica della chiesa è la funzione religiosa in doppia lingua, infatti le celebrazioni vengono officiate sia secondo il rito di Paolo VI, in lingua locale, sia secondo il rito di Pio V, in latino.
