Frankenstein (ITA-ENG)

ITA.

ENG. Today's illustration represents the monster created by Dr. Victor Frankenstein in the famous novel by Mary Shelley.
The novel was written by the English author between 1816 and 1817 and was published in 1818, Mary Shelley was only 19 years old and wrote this story following a challenge between writers to see who could write the best story of fear. It is said that he had the inspiration after having had a dream that scared her a lot. Naturally she won.
The title of the novel was Frankenstein and the subtitle was The Modern Prometheus.
I imagine that the plot of the story is known to all, in practice Dr. Victor Frankenstein was able to give life through electricity, to a monster created with different parts of corpses. You often fall into the error of calling Frankenstein the monster, which instead in the novel has no name but is simply called the monster or the creature.
Frankenstein is considered the first science fiction novel even if there are clear references to the gothic novel.
The cinema has contributed to the fame of the Frankenstein monster, in fact around 50 movies based on the novel by Mary Shelley have been shot. Another common mistake is to think that the monster emits only grunts to communicate, a mistake due to the famous film of 1931 with the great Boris Karloff, but in the book we read clearly that the monster is able to speak and is fully aware of the his monster condition.
Among the various movies, my favorite is definitely the parody shot by Mel Brooks, Frankenstein Junior.

The character of the illustration was created (just like the Frankenstein monster ...) with Daz3d studio, trying to give a bit out of shape to the subject and a face halfway between the angry and the suffering. I inserted a background and set the lights. After the rendering I opened the image with Photoshop and I had to work a lot with the micro contrasts to give a grunge touch to the skin, for the lights and shadows I worked with the technique of dodge & burn.

The next post with illustration, I will do it on another famous monster, the wolf man.
