Proprio per la sua natura di essere nato dal basso, ha incontrato enormi resistenze, ricordiamoci la confisca dell’oro avvenuta negli USA, nel 1933 sotto Roosvelt, come anche nell’Italia Mussoliniana nel 1935 ed in India nel 2016.

L’adozione del bitcoin, così come delle tante criptomonete nate in seguito, sembrano ripercorrere una storia simile all’oro. Esse sono monete decentralizzate, quindi non gestite da un’istituzione centralizzata come una banca centrale o un governo.
Le criptomonete essendo in disponibilità limitate sono tendenzialmente deflattive e non manipolabili, quindi sembrano funzionare come l’oro quando era usato come moneta.
Il bitcoin e le altre cripto ci stanno riportando all’era dell’oro?

Sommariamente ripercorrendo la storia dell’oro, esso era considerato un metallo ideale per la creazione di monete, per le sue caratteristiche, ma in epoche successive le banconote hanno sostituito gradualmente le monete d’oro. Le prime banconote erano dei certificati convertibili in oro, cioè le banconote erano rappresentativi di una certa quantità di oro depositate presso uno banca. Quindi le banconote avevano la copertura in oro garantita inizialmente dai privati e poi in seguito da re, governi e banche centrali.

In epoche più recenti l’oro è stato declassato come strumento di politica monetaria, per dar vita all’attuale sistema fiat money, dunque non legato a stretti vincoli dettati dal sistema aureo.
Le monete fiat, sono slegate da qualsiasi sottostante, quindi sono create dal nulla e non hanno un valore intrinseco, l’unica cosa che da un valore alla moneta fiat è la fiducia nella stessa riposta da chi la utilizza.
Nei paesi democratici oggigiorno la creazione e la gestione del denaro è stato trasferito dallo Stato alle banche centrali, che sono organi indipendenti, questo per evitare l’abuso o la malagestione da parte dei governi.

Summing up the history of gold, it was considered an ideal metal for the creation of coins, because of its characteristics, but in later periods the banknotes gradually replaced the gold coins. The first banknotes were gold convertible certificates, that is, the banknotes were representative of a certain amount of gold deposited with a bank. So the banknotes had gold coverage initially guaranteed by individuals and then later by kings, governments and central banks.

In more recent times, gold has been downgraded as an instrument of monetary policy, to give life to the current fiat money system, therefore not tied to the strict constraints dictated by the gold standard.
The fiat coins are untied from any underlying, so they are created from nothing and do not have an intrinsic value, the only thing that gives a value to the fiat currency is the trust in the same answer from who uses it.
In the democratic countries nowadays the creation and management of money has been transferred from the state to the central banks, which are independent organs, this to avoid the abuse or mismanagement by the governments.
