The premature birth of the planets
A European study involving researchers from different countries suggests that the formation of planets around a star begins before than previously thought. The results were obtained using the Alma telescope, which observed the formation of a star.

The planets are born when the dust orbiting around a star are compacted due to the mutual gravitational attraction. The researchers observed an absorption of the light emitted by the protostar, to a disc-shaped mass of dust, much more compact than expected (due to the fact that the star is very young). The scientists then hypothesized that the main cause of starlight obscuration was caused by large dust particles, the progenitors of the future planets. This suggests that the planets begin to form when the star is not yet fully active. A single star observed could be just a coincidence, so it will be important to look for other planetary systems in formation around newly formed stars.
Opioids without addiction
Substances such as morphine are used in medicine to inhibit the sense of pain. The problem with these substances is that they can cause addiction. New painkillers may soon solve this problem.

At the University of North Carolina, a group of researchers managed to produce a substance that, like morphine, interacts with neurons and blocks pain stimuli from nerve endings. Unlike morphine, however, this drug does not contain any substances that can generate addiction. Using computer simulations, it was possible to identify a wide range of molecules potentially useful for this purpose. Now some of these molecules will need to be tested, before becoming new drugs.
Migrants and economy
In the last days there has been much talk about "migrants", due to rigid positions taken by Italy (and also other countries) about this topic; beyond the different positions, however, remains the objective data revealed by a recent research according to which migrants are good for the economies of the countries that welcome them.

Obviously the mathematical models used for the study can not exactly represent the reality and for this reason the results can hardly be used to convince someone; however, it’s clear that countries that decide to welcome a certain number of migrants see their economy grow rapidly even after a few years. This depends by numerous factors: migrants require services, offer labor, etc... And all this can help the economy of those who decide to welcome them.
With this, we do not want to make any judgment about who supports one policy or the other one, but it seems clear that it is a fact to be taken into consideration.

La nascita prematura dei pianeti
Uno studio europeo che vede coinvolti ricercatori da diverse nazioni suggerisce che la formazione dei pianeti attorno a una stella inizi in tempi molto minori di quanto pensato finora. I risultati sono stati ottenuti utilizzando il telescopio Alma, che ha osservato una stella in formazione.

I pianeti si formano quando le polveri che orbitano attorno ad una stella si compattano a causa della reciproca attrazione gravitazionale. I ricercatori hanno osservato un assorbimento della luce emessa dalla protostella, a una massa di polvere a forma di disco, molto più compatta del previsto, dato che la stella è giovanissima. Gli scienziati hanno quindi ipotizzato che la causa principale dell’oscuramento della luce stellare derivasse dalle grandi particelle di polvere, ossia dai progenitori dei futuri pianeti. Questo suggerisce che i pianeti inizino a formarsi quando la stella non è ancora nel pieno della sua attività. Una sola stella osservata potrebbe far pensare ad un caso, per questo sarà importante cercare altri sistemi planetari in formazione attorno a stelle appena formate.
Oppioidi senza dipendenza
Le sostanze come la morfina sono utilizzate in medicina per inibire il senso del dolore. Il problema di queste sostanze è che danno assuefazione e di conseguenza possono causare dipendenza. Nuovi farmaci antidolorifici potrebbero presto risolvere questa problematica.

Presso l’università del North Carolina, un gruppo di ricercatori è riuscito a produrre una sostanza che, come la morfina, interagisce con i neuroni e blocca gli stimoli del dolore provenienti dalle terminazioni nervose. A differenza della morfina, però, questa sostanza non contiene componenti in grado di generare dipendenza. Utilizzando simulazioni al computer, è stato possibile identificare una vasta gamma di molecole potenzialmente utili allo scopo. Ora alcune di queste molecole dovranno essere testate, prima di diventare farmaci veri i propri.
Migranti ed economia
Negli ultimi giorni si è fatto tanto parlare di “migranti” a causa della rigida posizione assunta dall’Italia in materia; al di là del torto o della ragione, però, resta il dato oggettivo rivelato da una recente ricerca secondo cui i migranti, sia economici che in fuga dalla guerra, fanno bene alle economie dei paesi che li accolgono.

Ovviamente i modelli matematici utilizzati per lo studio non possono rappresentare esattamente la realtà e per questo, i risultati, difficilmente potranno essere usati per convincere qualcuno; quello che appare, però, è che i paesi che decidono di accogliere un certo numero di migranti vedono la propria economia crescere rapidamente già dopo pochi anni. Questo dipende da numerosi fattori: i migranti richiedono servizi, offrono manodopera, ecc… E tutto questo può aiutare l’economia di chi accoglie.
Con questo non si vuole dare un giudizio rispetto a chi sostiene una politica o l’altra, ma sembra chiaro che sia comunque un dato da prendere in considerazione.
