We don’t need the "Ninth Planet"
Few days ago we discussed how the external structure of the solar system would be easily explained by the presence of a ninth planet not yet identified. Now, a team of researchers, replies to this hypothesis by supporting the contrary thesis.

The new theory predicts the presence of hundreds of small bodies orbiting beyond Neptune, whose masses would generate the gravitational forces necessary to create the structure of the Solar System. This theory appears in some ways much more plausible than that which imagines the presence of a ninth planet, larger in size than the Earth, which moves beyond Neptune and which we have not yet identified. However, the fans of the previous theory do not consider collected data sufficient. Who will be right? However, it is possible that they are both right, at least in part.
New Horizons has awakened
After six months of "sleep mode" the NASA probe reactivated. Now the target is an object of the Kuiper belt, which the probe will meet in 2019.

After giving us some spectacular images of Pluto, the New Horizon probe is getting ready to reach Ultima Thule, this is the name given to the asteroid that will be visited next year. It is an object no larger than 30 Km in diameter, at a temperature of -240 ° C. The Kuiper belt is a group of billions of rocks formed 4.5 billion years ago. Studying them is essential to understand how the solar system was formed, because these objects have remained unchanged since their formation, 4.5 billion years ago. Appointment in January 2019.
A glove for magnetic resonance
A group of researchers at the NYU School of Medicine has built a wearable glove that can perform a detailed magnetic resonance imaging in the hand area, opening the possibility to otherwise impossible diagnosis.

It can create image that that classic magnetic resonance can’t. The glove is able to bend adapting itself to the shape of the hand, and this will allow doctors to analyze the limb when it is in different positions, unlike the classical magnetic resonance in which the hand is always relaxed. It could be used in particular for the treatment of injuries due to repeated efforts, such as carpal tunnel syndrome. Obviously the researchers do not intend to stop in the hand, and already hypothesizing to be able to build a similar device for the knee.

Non serve il “Pianeta Nove”
Pochi giorni fa avevamo discusso di come la struttura esterna del nostro sistema solare sarebbe facilmente spiegabile ipotizzando la presenza di un nono pianeta non ancora identificato. Ora, un team di ricercatori, ribatte a questa ipotesi sostenendo la tesi contraria.

La nuova teoria prevede la presenza di centinaia di piccoli corpi orbitanti oltre Nettuno, la cui massa sommata darebbe origine alle forze gravitazionali necessarie a plasmare il Sistema Solare per come lo conosciamo. Questa teoria appare per certi versi molto più plausibile rispetto a quella che immagina la presenza di un nono pianeta, di dimensioni maggiori della Terra, che si muove oltre Nettuno, ma che ancora non siamo riusciti ad individuare. Tuttavia, i sostenitori della teoria precedente non ritengono sufficienti i dati raccolti. Chi avrà ragione? Non è comunque da escludere che, almeno in parte, abbiano entrambi ragione.
New Horizons si è risvegliata
Dopo sei mesi di passati in “sleep mode” la sonda della Nasa si è riattivata. Ora l’obiettivo da raggiungere è un oggetto della fascia di Kuiper, che la sonda incontrerà nel 2019.

Dopo averci regalato delle spettacolari immagini di Plutone, la sonda New Horizon si prepara a raggiungere Ultima Thule, così è stato chiamato l’asteroide che verrà visitato l’anno prossimo. È un oggetto non più grande di 30 Km di diametro, che si trova a una temperatura di -240 °C. La fascia di Kuiper è un insieme di rocce formatesi 4.5 miliardi di anni fa. Studiarle è fondamentale per capire come si è formato il sistema solare, perchè questi oggetti sono rimasti pressochè inalterati fin dai tempi della loro formazione, 4.5 miliardi di anni fa.
Un guanto per la risonanza magnetica
Un gruppo di ricercatori della NYU School of Medicine ha costruito un guanto indossabile in grado di effettuare una risonanza magnetica dettagliata nella zona della mano, aprendo la possibilità a diagnosi altrimenti impossibili.

Arriva dove la classica risonanza magnetica non può. Il guanto è in grado di piegarsi seguendo la forma della mano, e questo consentirà ai medici di analizzare l’arto quando si trova in posizioni diverse, a differenza della risonanza magnetica classica nella quale la mano è sempre distesa. Potrebbe servire in particolare per il trattamento delle lesioni dovute a sforzi ripetuti, come la sindrome del tunnel carpale. Ovviamente i ricercatori non hanno intenzione di fermarsi alla mano, e già ipotizzando di poter costruire un dispositivo analogo per il ginocchio.
