A very large pulsar
A team of researchers managed to determine the mass of a pulsar, thanks to the help of the light emitted by a star that orbits around it. The result of the measurement is unexpected, because the mass found is very big. Now is necessary to rethink how behave the particles subject to great pressure.

A pulsar is a neutron star, a ultra-compact remainder of a dead star. It has a very high density, because it concentrates the equivalent mass of the Sun in a radius of a few tens of Km. In particular, the newly discovered has a mass of 2.3 times greater than the Sun. To determine the mass of the pulsar, scientists has used the light emitted by a star orbiting around it. By studying how the frequency of the light emitted varies over time, it has been possible calculate the time taken by the star to complete an orbit around the pulsar, and consequently the mass of the pulsar itself.
The oldest lizard
In the Dolomites mountains it was discovered a fossil of an ancient lizard, dating back to 250 million years ago, about 70 million years from what has been hypothesized up to now.

To date, the group of squamata, the ancestors of lizards and snakes, showed a fairly uncertain phylogenetic origin, based only on genetic tests but poor in field trials. Now, with the extraction of a Megachirella wachtleri fossil, researchers believe to have identified the common ancestor of the two groups. Fossils of this type had already been identified in the past, but the poor quantity and the difficulty of extraction had always represented an obstacle.
Testing the zero emission power plant
In Texas, the technicians are now testing a part of the zero emission power plant that will produce energy through the use of carbon dioxide and natural gas.

This is an innovative project with no precedent whose test, if it were to be successful, could really open the door to a revolution in the energy sector. The new plant, in fact, is environmental-friendly since it does not release pollutants into the atmosphere. It uses a closed and pressurized circuit full of carbon dioxide, which is heated through the use of natural gas and which drives the movement of the turbine that generates energy.

Occam's Razor is a principle that has always guided scientific inquiry in the past. What is this principle, is it valid? What are its limits? @mountainwashere analyzes the Razor, using concrete examples of well-established theories that strongly clash with its dictates.
