Puntualmente in processione
All'origine di tutte le festività ci sono sempre delle ricorrenza religiose. Le varie funzioni liturgiche sono particolarmente sentite dai fedeli che partecipano in massa specialmente allo svolgimento delle tradizionali processioni.
L'aspetto spirituale assume anche una valenza etno-antropologica in quanto contribuisce al mantenimento delle antiche tradizioni popolari e delle caratteristiche usanze locali.
Il cerimoniale di quasi tutte le processioni è pressoché identico e prevede un lungo corteo che, solitamente accompagnato da musiche e preghiere, procede per le strade del paese al seguito del simulacro. Ma, oltre ad avere un significato artistico e sociale, le feste religiose intendono favorire il turismo, le iniziative eno-gastronomiche e gli scambi commerciali.
Vissuto intorno alla metà del '300, san Rocco di Montpellier, viene generalmente invocato per proteggere i devoti da epidemie e catastrofi naturali ed è considerato il Patrono dei contadini, degli infermieri e degli animali.
Si narra che, durante il viaggio di ritorno da un pellegrinaggio, il santo francese, si rifugiò in una grotta perché gravemente malato, ma sopravvisse anche grazie ad un cane che ogni giorno gli faceva visita portandogli una pagnotta e leccandogli affettuosamente le ferite.
Il generoso cane è stato infatti raffigurato insieme al santo sia in quasi tutte le statue che nei dipinti.
La giornata dedicata ai festeggiamenti in onore di san Rocco è il 16 agosto e tra le varie località italiane nelle quali Rocco viene particolarmente venerato ci sono Roma, Genova, Voghera e Troina.
L'estate scorsa mi trovavo proprio in quest'ultima cittadina siciliana ed ho scattato personalmente alcune fotografie in occasione della pittoresca “Processione di San Rocco”.

The day dedicated to the celebrations in honor of St. Rocco is August 16th and among the various Italian places in which Rocco is particularly revered there are Rome, Genoa, Voghera and Troina. Last summer I was just in this last Sicilian town and I personally took some photographs on the occasion of the picturesque "Processione di San Rocco".
