Comics & Superheroes on TV - Chapter #1 [ITA-ENG]
Vi è mai capitato di incrociare qualche Nerd (come me ad esempio) pronto ad elencarvi tutti i supereroi MARVEL apparsi al cinema o quelli DC, elencandovi le mille incongruenze dei 2 universi e le ancor più numerose e incredibili trovate spettacolari che hanno reso i cinecomics la nuova frontiera cinematografica nonchè quella redditizia? Come dare torto agli spesso barbuti e occhialuti appassionati di fumetti che per anni hanno sognato di vedere al cinema Wonder Woman piuttosto che Thor, Dr Strange come Aquaman per poi trovarsi di fronte ad un orgia di eroi in costume nei vari Avengers o addirittura Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman e l'amato Batman nel recente Justice League della Warner?!
Impossibile non amare quello sguardo adrenalinico e stupito negli occhi di bambini molto cresciuti che si recano al cinema ad ogni uscita del film inerente il loro eroe preferito!
Ebbene da qualche anno a questa parte il nerd medio ha potuto contare su un'altra fonte inesauribile di orgasmi fumettistici grazie all'approdo in tv di numerose serie a tema supereroistico con la generazione di nuovi universi, serie stand alone ed universi più o meno espansi.
Il mondo seriale è ormai arrivato a livelli qualitativi abnormi. Negli ultimi anni è stato coniato il termine peak tv per indicare il momento storico esplosivo ed eccezionale che la tv sta vivendo, grazie alla produzione non solo di serie tv di qualità ma di un numero esorbitante di serie tv di qualità. La golden age della HBO aveva regalato fenomeni quali The Wire, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under che avevano aperto la strada a sperimentazioni più o meno riuscite che hanno spinto sempre più emittenti ad investire su idee originali prima e su produzioni sempre più dispendiose ed ambiziose poi. E cosi sono arrivate Netflix e le sue sorelle che hanno spianato la strada all'era nota come la peak tv.
Il tema supereroistico ha seguito questo trend generale della serialità contemporanea e dopo aver debuttato e sbancato i botteghini di mezzo mondo da ormai una decade, i prodotti nati da fumetti hanno iniziato a spopolare sempre più in tv.
Anche questo tipo di produzioni ha seguito l'andamento generale della serialità, immettendo dapprima pochi prodotti di genere sul mercato televisivo, innalzando l'asticella poi e inflazionando il mercato con prodotti di medio-alta qualità.
Dimenticate, dunque, eroi analogici in calzamaglia come il Batman di Adam West o la Wonder Woman di Lynda Carter. Oggi in tv si fa sul serio anche sul fronte effetti visivi e speciali, battaglie epiche e arti marziali da fare invidia a Bruce Lee. Intrattenimento assicurato e piacevole ma in alcuni casi anche qualcosa di più, anche qualche sfaccettatura drammatica tout court o sperimentazioni visive e psicologiche di livello assoluto.
Nei prossimi capitoli proverò a sviscerare i fenomeni seriali di genere, nel frattempo vorrei indicarvi i 3 eventi spartiacque per la serialità supereroistica, eventi che a mio avviso ci hanno condotti a questa situazione di tante e buone produzioni, su molte emittenti diverse, con target diversi e successi diversi. Oltre ai 3 eventi che vi elencherò a breve reputo che ce ne sarà un altro nel futuro immediato che potrebbe determinare un cataclisma nella serialità contemporanea e che prende spunto da una graphic novel tra le più famose al mondo. Di seguito i 3 punti fissi per capire la tv fumettistica dei nostri anni:
- Gli apripista: Arrow e Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. debuttano sulla tv generalista circa 6 anni fa generando attesa e curiosità, con risultati altalenanti tutti da decifrare
- Una nuova prospettiva: Marvel & Netflix siglano un accordo per la produzione di 4 serie originali + una quinta che viene presentata come l'Avengers del piccolo schermo.
- L'asticella si alza: su FX, Noah Hawley lancia Legion
Nei prossimi capitoli proverò ad andare a fondo a questi eventi, con un focus finale su cosa ci aspetterà in futuro.
A tal proposito credo che a breve assisteremo al cataclisma a cui prima accennavo: l'adattamento della Graphic Novel WATCHMEN. Se il titolo non dovesse solleticarvi allora aggiungete che al timone ci sarà Damon Lindelof (Lost, The Leftovers) e a produrla sarà la HBO.

Have you ever met some Nerd (like me for example) ready to list all the superheroes MARVEL od DC appeared in the theaters, listing the many inconsistencies of the 2 universes and even more numerous and incredible spectacular things that have made the cinecomics the new cinematic frontier as well as the profitable one? How to blame the often bearded and spectacled comics fans who for years have dreamed of seeing Wonder Woman at the cinema rather than Thor, Dr Strange or Aquaman and then face an orgy of heroes in costumes in various Avengers or even Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman and the beloved Batman in Warner's recent Justice League ?!
Impossible not to love that look, adrenaline and amazed in the eyes of very grown up children who go to the cinema at each release of the film inherent their favorite hero!
Well, for a few years now, the average nerd has been able to count on another inexhaustible source of comics orgasms thanks to the TV landing of numerous series about superhero themes with the generation of new universes, stand-alone series and more or less expanded universes
The serial world has now reached abnormal quality levels. In recent years the term peak tv has been coined to indicate the explosive and exceptional historical moment that TV is experiencing, thanks to the production not only of quality TV series but of an exorbitant number of quality TV series. The golden age of HBO had given phenomena such as The Wire, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under that had paved the way for more or less successful experiments that have pushed more and more issuers to invest on original ideas before and on more and more expensive and ambitious productions then . And so Netflix and her sisters arrived that paved the way for the era known as peak tv.
The superhero theme has followed this general trend of contemporary seriality and after having debuted and broke the box office in half the world for a decade now, the products born from comics have started to become more and more popular on TV.
Also this type of production has followed the general trend of the serial, introducing first few products of genre on the television market, raising the bar then and inflating the market with medium-high quality products.
Forget, then, analog heroes in tights like the Batman interpreted by Adam West or the Wonder Woman interpreted by Lynda Carter. On TV today, visual and special effects, epic battles and martial arts to envy Bruce Lee are also taken seriously. Guaranteed and pleasant entertainment but in some cases even something more, even some dramatic facet tout court or absolute visual and psychological experiments.
In the next chapters I will try to dissect the serial phenomena of this genre, in the meantime I would like to point out the 3 fundamental events for the superhero seriality, events that I believe have led us to this situation of many good productions, on many different broadcasters, with different targets and different successes. In addition to the 3 events that I will list in short I think there will be another in the immediate future that could lead to a cataclysm in contemporary seriality and that is inspired by a graphic novel among the most famous in the world. Arrow... Quella di Freccia Verde è stata la prima serie supereroistica che iniziai a seguire quando arrivò in Italia. Le prime due stagioni furono anche interessanti, ma dalla terza in poi divenne decisamente banalotta: la storia tra Oliver Queen e Felicity non si reggeva in piedi ed era un evidente tentativo di fare del misero fanservice e accontentare gli adolescenti (che poi costituiscono la fetta più grande del pubblico di The CW). Tanto che, arrivato alla quarta stagione, mi sono fermato dopo pochi episodi. Peccato, perché io adoro gli eroi che si fanno da soli, quelli che diventano tali non perché ricevono strani poteri sovrannaturali, ma con un duro allenamento (e un discreto conto in banca, direi).
Peccato soprattutto perché, nell'eterna lotta tra Marvel e DC, continuo a preferire le atmosfere cupe tipiche di DC. Inutile girarci intorno, però, sia per quanto riguarda il cinema, che per quanto riguarda la tv, Marvel/Disney continua ad essere avanti anni luce rispetto alla concorrente.
Hai centrato il punto. Affronterò questi temi nelle prossime puntate. CW ha fatto del fanservice la sua cifra stilistica e con i vari arrow, flash e supergirl hanno portato ciò ai massimi livelli. Restano comunque delle serie ottime per una tv generalista che hanno dato il là alla produzione di serie tv maggiormente crude e cupe che hanno trovato nella collaborazione Marvel/Netflix il proprio apice.
Concordo sul fatto che Marvel doing better sia al cinema che in tv. Altro livello. Hanno creato da zero un universo cinematografico immenso senza perdere mai un colpo. Poi può piacere o meno ma lo sforzo fatto era inimmaginabile 10 anni fa. La DC dal canto suo pur avendo supereroi di maggior richiamo e tematiche molto più interessanti ha creato un universo confusionario e un po buttato li che ha raggiunto il suo apice negativo con il pessimo Justice League che pur rappresentava uno degli eventi cinematografici più attesi degli ultimi 20 anni probabilmente.
