Visit to the Palmach Museum in Tel Aviv

One of our first stops in Tel Aviv was a visit to the Palmach Museum - this proved to be a highlight and you felt a deep respect for this little nation and how it gained it's independence at the sacrifice of many lives of young men and women.

The Palmach Museum tells the story of how the Israelis fought British rule which led to the State of Israel being proclaimed on 14 May 1948. There were great celebrations, but these were short lived, as almost immediately Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq invaded the new country. In the ensuing seven month War of Independence, Israel came out victorious, but at a severe cost - 6000 Israelis had lost their lives. Many battles were won miraculously.IMG_0016.JPG
