that "bad idea" is what saved them from a similar iraq/syria/yemen scenario for almost 2 decades now.
it is a deterrent, which will be used if they are struck first.
Their problem is they will be struck by a 3rd party. Then it will be left up to the 2 standing there with guns to finish it.
