Little Things Means A Lot
It was an unusual afternoon, the blazing sun ☀🔥 was enough to roast a ripe plantain. She could barely look up. Her feet burned from the hole beneath the soles of her shoe and her only prayer was that she arrives at their one bedroom thatched apartment on time so she could get some water to quench her thirst and hopefully, Momma would have prepared a meal out of the soured soup, for she was farmished.
Just then, she saw him, a middle aged man on the road, trying to fix his car which had broken down by the road side.
It was a lonely street, so getting help at that particular point in time was obviously going to be difficult.
Mafia saw him and thought of helping out, her Father had been a Mechanical Engineer before his demise.

From childhood, she had been used to her Father's work tools as he always told her what each tool was meant for.
The Hunger and thirst that burned within almost surpassed her desire to help the stranded man but remembering her Father's word "Be nice to everyone, including strangers", she decided to help him instead.
Mafia: Good afternoon Sir, what's wrong with your car?
Man: I don't know. It just stopped abruptly here and I can't seem to reach my Mechanic.
Mafia: Would you allow me check it?
Man: Sure, please go ahead.
Mafia goes to the car and like a witch who has seen from afar the solution to a problem, she heads straight to make some adjustments on the carburetor.
Mafia: Please go start your car.
Man starts the car and surprisingly, it moves.
Man: Wow. How did you do it?
I wouldn't have thought that was the problem.
Mafia: (Smiling) It's fine Sir. I'm glad I could help. It's nothing at all. (Makes to leave)
Man: (Scratching his head) Erm, I owe you. I actually don't have anything on me. But if you give me your number, I promise to repay you. You really do not know what this little act of kindness means to me....
Mafia: Oh, I don't have a phone, but it's actually nothing. I'm happy to help.
2 years later. She falls sick. Terribly sick. It was the same sickness that had killed her father some few years back.
Her mother takes her to the hospital and pleads with the officials to attend to her as she is the only surviving child she had.
Mother: Please attend to my daughter, she's dying. I promise to pay you as soon I make some sales. But please don't let my daughter die.
Hospital Attendant: I'm sorry it's against the policy of this hospital. I have no power to act against the policies already stated.
Mother: I promise, I will pay 😢 😢 😢
Please!
Please!
Please!
Just then, a man walks in and sees the situation on ground.
Fred:What's going on here?
Hospital Attendant: This woman wants her daughter attended to without making an advance payment. I told her we have a policy we live by and…..
Fred: Please help her out. Attend to the daughter.
Hospital Attendant: But I…..
Fred: No buts. Attend to her.
She is quickly attended to and soon to be discharged from the hospital.
Mafia’s mother: Thank God for a dear man who had pity on us. I don't know what would have happened to you if not for him.
Mafia: But who is this man? At least, we need to thank him.
Mother: I actually forgot to say thank you to him. He left immediately.
Fred: How is she now?
Mother: Oh, that's him. She's fine Sir.
Mafia: (In a bit to stand up). Thank you very much for……
What? Sir? It's you? Wow!!!
Mother: You know him?
Mafia: Yes Mother, I do. I helped him fix his car a certain long time ago.
Fred: When you helped me the other day, you said it was nothing. But you never knew that little things do matter and they mean a lot.
To you, it was little, but to me, it was everything.
I was on my way to an interview that day and if I hadn't gotten help as at that time, I'd have missed it and I wouldn't be here today.
That interview landed me this job and it's all thanks to you.
Mafia: (Crying).....Oh, thank you so much Sir.
Fred:You're welcome. You're free to call me at anytime and I'll be willing to help.
Here's my card…..
good story.
