RE: IOTA - New Wallet 2.5.1 - Script to get your full Balance back

in #iota7 years ago

Is it light enough without the JAVA bloatware yet to actually run on my IoT light bulb?

Sort:

IOTA team provides libraries to use Tangle for many different languages. C is one of them. Anyone can write software that uses IOTA in this language, even a software for mentioned lightbulb. Officially IOTA team works only on libraries and desktop wallet. They should concentrate on developing the currency itself and they do that well. They won't write software for each and every device there is or will be. Others are free to do this free of charge.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping this new wallet might mean that I don't have to install a desktop OS and Java on my light bulbs.

Your light bulbs are probably never meant to do PoW on the IOTA network. The PoW required should come from something else (other users, dedicated chips like perhaps JINN processors). For more about JINN processors, see the relevant paragraph in http://www.tangleblog.com/2017/01/25/the-tech-behind-iota-explained/

With flash channels (those are currently live on IOTA network) there is no need to perform any PoW for such low-end devices as long as they communicate within the same off-tangle channel. It is one of the options to resolve this without any custom chips.
