IOTA Cold Seed

This is a simple printout for creating an IOTA seed. Its purpose is to create a seed for any IOTA wallet in a safe way, completely offline. It looks rough.... child like.... but it does the job!

Currently there are IOTA seed generators out there which generate a seed instantly. From there to keep it safe we should write it out and store it offline. Leaving the seed on your computer would be asking for trouble. It's ok for a few dollars, but trading off convenience isn't the smartest option.

So since we need to write it out anyway, I'd personally prefer to spend a few extra minutes to create one manually offline. The whole process shouldn't take more than 5 minutes, and it should give peace of mind that it has been created offline in the safest possible manner.

I hear stories about hackers installing software which take screen shots every few seconds. So when we generate a seed online there is a possibility of a hacker being able to have access to your seed. Perhaps a very small possibility, but it is always better to be safe than sorry.

Creating a seed is a simple process. It requires 81 characters combining upper case letters with the number 9.

Print out the cold seed sheet and start filling it in. (I would personally not fill it out in front of your computer camera or speaking the characters out loud).

You can get creative in ways to fill out the sheet. Here are just a few of them:

Insert words

Scramble a word

Play a game of naughts and crosses (using the letter O and X (note: cannot use zero as only the number 9 is accepted in the seed)

Make sure they are all filled in

Now that you have your IOTA seed, lets try it out on the light wallet!

Its organized into groups of 3 to simplify typing it in. You will know it has 81 characters when the "SYX" appears in the bottom right hand corner.

I'd recommend just sending a small amount to start with. Just to make sure it works and to get a general feel of the wallet.
