IOTA’s secrets and the big “Q“
It is doubtless that in recent weeks more and more speculations have flared over when IOTA’s mysterious project “Q” is finally released. This speculation was certainly fueled by members of the IOTA Foundation itself.

“Q”? What is that anyway. At this point I do not want to repeat the same things that you can find in detail about a search on the net. But for those who are new to IOTA, or have not been concerned with speculation about “Q”, here is a very good link that summarizes the basics.

https://steemkr.com/iota/@chkoenig/german-deutsch-iota-q-was-koennte-es-sein-preisentwicklung

For those who want to read it directly, I have translated this German text as an attachment in English.

As already mentioned, these rumors were accelerated by statements from IOTA members. For example David Sonstebo repeatedly mentioned:: “Q is one oft he biggest, if not the biggest things to occur to IOTA project.“

Post of the IOTA Founder
and that “Q“ is coming in Q1 2018.

All this has led the IOTA community to believe that “Q” has something of a world-changing dimension, and that the IOTA course will rise very very high. “To da moon”, is a synonym of it.

Regarding IOTA’s courses, after the hype last year, the opposite is true. The courses fall in the wake of Bitcoin. Also, no major announcements have been made so far this year. One exception, and this is not to be underestimated, is the partnership with Bosch and Volkswagen. This was celebrated in a huge way at the Bosch Connected World 2018. Especially the strong partner Bosch, who is involved in the Internet of Things globally, can have unforeseen effects on IOTA and the way to a global protocol.

Currently, it can be said that both the developers of IOTA, as well as the founders, work very hard on the coming things that give IOTA before other cryptocurrencies unique features. This would be the starting point for IOTA as the global standard protocol, not only for use in the Internet of Things.

Every little development that makes IOTA stand out from other cryptocurrencies is really big. In addition to the smaller things and away from “Q” but other things are noteworthy:

Partnership with big companies (The big deal — a secret). I wrote about it in my last article: https://medium.com/@markusgebhardt_15738/iota-for-beginners-61f96835082d
Partnerships with cities, in the health sector, in the energy sector
The IOTA Marketplace
The IOTA Ecosystem
IOTA Controlled Agency (ICT)
Other stock exchanges and trading opportunities
IOTA is currently paving the way for a great future and can set global standards.

As always, I would be really happy about donations. These donations are for our project “public IOTA”

There is a lot of speculation about IOTA’s mysterious Project Q, which is said to overtake even Bitcoin Cash, which would equal a market capitalization of over $ 40 billion, according to the developers. “What can be so revolutionary?”, I asked myself and went on the search.

Speculation about “Q”

  1. A new programming language?

The first hint I found was a new programming language called Q # from Microsoft. This is a quantum programming language. Thus, without becoming too technical, quantum objects or their state can be programmed. Anyone who has taken care in physics may still know the double-slit experiment. In light, it is u.a. also about quantum objects. These objects behave differently when one knows or measures their condition.

In my opinion, “Q” is not about the use of the new programming language. This is not unlikely, but it would not be as revolutionary as IOTA has touted.

2nd quantum computer / Qualcomm

Another theory is the use of quantum computers for IOTA. One of the major manufacturers of processors is called Qualcomm. Both begin with Q, but I have also quickly rejected this approach after a short research, because quantum computers are still in the very early stages of development and it will take several years until my research can really be used.

  1. Qubic

In my opinion, this is by far the most likely explanation of “Q” by far. But what is Qubic? For this you have to know the story before the founding of IOTA. For me, these were all new, but extremely interesting findings that have shown me that IOTA has greater potential than previously thought.

The story of IOTA

It started in 2012 with the developer Sergey Ivancheglo aka Come-from-Beyond (short: CfB). This started the project Qubic at that time (original article on bitcointalk in English).

In short, Qubic is something like Bitcoin, but without Blockchain, but with a different technology. This technology does not have the disadvantages of blockchain technology, such as the need to store state transitions and transfer large amounts of data. She also specializes in JINN-based IoT devices. Sounds suspiciously similar to what IOTA is today, with one exception, the JINN-based IoT devices. In 2014, there was the last news about Qubic on bitcointalk, because he had to wait for the already mentioned JINN processors:

After announcing the first JINN processors, the last update came to Qubic:

This was at the end of 2014 with the statement: Qubic should be published in about 4 years or a little earlier, which would be perfectly in line with 2018.

By the way, Sergey or CfB is one of the key people of IOTA today.

What is JINN now?

And here it gets really interesting. JINN is a processor, but it does not work with the binary system, but with the ternary system. Binary computers work only with zeroes and ones, a ternary computer (wiki) has another state: -1. This is much more effective, but more complicated to implement, which is why binary computers have prevailed at that time — power on: 1, power off: 0.

In July 2015, the first prototypes of the JINN processors were sent in for testing, which should take 3 months.

Exactly three months later in October 2015, IOTA was announced.

What is so special about JINN and Qubic now?

At the moment, every computer that wants to send a transaction on the IOTA Tangle has to confirm two more transactions in advance, which requires computing power (= proof of work).

With JINN, this can be done on any device without a computer turned on! This allows any car, cell phone, refrigerator or any other device to send transactions through the Tangle, as it can now perform the required proof of work itself!

Who is behind JINN?

Assuming that IOTA becomes the backbone of IoT and builds on JINN, every IoT device requires such a JINN processor. For this, a big player must be brought on board to handle this. And this could already have happened to Bosch (beware highly speculative!). They have already invested in IOTA and there are rumors of a $ 1.1 billion new chip factory where the JINN processors could be mass produced.
