This is very old coin and came into work in 2013. Peercoin’s equivalent to Bitcoin’s Proof of Work is Proof of Stake, and instead of Bitcoin’s mining, Peercoin has minting. You don’t need expensive and wasteful dedicated hardware like with Bitcoin. Peercoin gives a reward to those who mint.
