My First Solid Silver Coins - Silver Stacking Newbie
These are my first ever silver purchases. They're all pure .999, 1 oz silver. I went with the Australian kangaroos (19) and the Canadian maple leaves (full tube of 25), both extremely popular choices in the stacking community, as they're usually the cheapest coins to buy. They are also legal tender in their respective countries.
I'm a firm believer in having a diverse investment portfolio. In addition to intangible currency, I like tangible assets like precious metals, and every portfolio, I believe, should have at least some silver/gold in it. They're a great way to hedge against the devaluation of fiat currencies (money to you and me).
These were bought from goldsilver.be, a Belgian company that will ship worldwide, and whose prices are probably the cheapest I've seen in Europe. I've used them a couple of times now, and they're really good. Delivery to the UK takes only 3 days.

I didn't expect to like the kangaroos so much, because they don't tend to get a lot of love in the silver community. But when I saw them up close, I was in awe. I'm glad they're among the cheapest coins, as I'll gladly buy more in future.

When I was young my buddies and I were obsessed with accumulating silver bars and gold coins. We used to play cards gambling with silver bars in plastic sleeves, throwing them in the pot like they were nothing. It was the most fun gambling I've ever had. Nothing like raking in a pile of 1 oz silver bars.
I suggest giving it a whirl with these beautiful coins, it's a real rush.
Haha, that does sound like a lot of fun. Was silver cheaper for you back then? But gambling with pure silver is way too scary for me. Maybe when I have a thousand ounces I might do something like that. Have to convince more friends to buy it first, though.
Actually to date myself it was in the teens in price in those days then the Hunt family(Bunker and his brother) ran the price of silver up to $50. an ounce by manipulating the market and we all sold everything we had back to the local Naples coin and toy store we bought it from.
Great to hear you're a stacker! I once had a roll of Maple Leafs and even a 100-oz bar of silver. The thing was about the size of a brick...

Speaking of dreams: in 2009, I had a dream of physically buying a 1000-ounce bar. It's something I would have played for laughs, but I didn't have a vidcam & couldn't find a volunteer to film me lugging home a >60 pound bar. :)
LOL! Beer has got to be up there as one of the craziest things to trade your silver for.
Haha, a 1000 oz bar would be too much to handle. I like small pieces that are easy to hide.

Nice pickups. I really like the Kangaroo coins. The Kangaroo is a new coin series that started in 2015. That's why the Kangaroos "don't get a lot of love" , as they're not established in the market. However the Maple Leafs were hated by stackers for many years. That's because the Maple Leafs tend to develop "milk spots" on the coin's surface. These milk spots are caused by the chemicals used by the Mint to wash the coins. Many stackers find these milk spots to be unattractive, which is why they avoid buying Maple Leafs.
