A unique gold ring has been found in excavations at an ancient winery complex in Israel.

Recently, a unique gold ring has been found that came from excavations at the ancient winery complex, Yavne, Israel. Where, the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA), which has announced that this winery complex is used to produce the legendary wine, known as Gaza or Ashkelon wine.

The discovery of the gold ring is reported to have a uniqueness, which has a purple amethyst. The jewelry was obtained from excavations near one of the warehouses. Seeing this, Dr. Amir Golani, an expert on ancient jewelry from the IAA, gave his comments.

“The person who owns the ring is a rich person and the wearing of the jewelery shows his status and wealth. Such a ring can be worn by both men and women,” he said, citing The Jerusalem Post.

"There are many benefits that have been attached to this gem (amethyst), including prevention of the side effect of drinking, namely hangovers," he continued.

Quoting Britannica, amethyst or amethyst itself comes from the Greek, amethystos which means not drunk. It also expresses the ancient folk belief that the stone will protect its owner from drunkenness that happens to a person.

"It is possible that the beautiful ring belonged to a magnificent warehouse owner, a foreman or just an unlucky visitor who dropped and lost the precious ring until it was found by us," said Dr. Elie Haddad.

For now, researchers have not provided a definite date for this discovery. However, it is known that this artifact was found from a location between the end of the Byzantine period and the beginning of the early Islamic period, around the 7th century AD.

However, since it comes with a similar ring, a golden circle filled with amethyst, which was very common in Roman times, it may have belonged to someone who lived in the city in the early 3rd century AD.
