my introvert anthem

I like how this singer, Aubrey Logan, swings. Not only do I love her voice, she also effortlessly takes a couple measures out to play trombone.

Someone understands how it’s like to feel ambivalent once they go out their front door. I wish I had the superpower of invisibility. Life would feel comfy.

The world feels a little too wild for me sometimes. I feel like there’s an unwritten hipster score to meet in order to be socially accepted. Petty...petty....stuff I’m on guard over. Forget studying reviews on an establishment, I need reviews on the social terrain. What’s THAT weather going to be like? What gear should I bring and what should I expect?

I’m probably doing my own head in with thinking so much.

I feel less anxious the closer I am to home. I once joined my roommate and her friends for a birthday drink wearing clothes splattered with paint. I was in the middle of a project at home but didn’t mind stepping away for a moment. I must’ve been a curious sight to behold because a man at the bar asked what was up with the painting outfit. After introducing the birthday girl and her friends, he bought us all champagne cocktails. When I tried to dash out after meeting my social time allotment and wanted to return to my project, he asked what I was into.

JNET: “Quantum physics.”

It’s a subject you really can’t get into in a noisy bar while your roommate is celebrating HER birthday. He probably wanted to see if small talk would make me stick around. Nope. But with that response I gained a friend. I later learned he’s a science fiction writer. I’d bump into him in many occasions over the years. We’ve had a nice “hey, neighbor” relationship. He’s accepted my wallflower personality and hasn’t judged my abrupt goodbyes when I felt I’ve had hit my limit of people energy.

What am I doing here?? I’m done. Bye!!!

Funny things said when we introverts go out in the wild....

“Wooo hoo!!!!! We are out on a FRIDAY NIGHT!!!!”

“Ok, I’m going over there to check things out. Don’t lose sight of me!”

“My ears are going to bleed if I have to stand here any longer.”

It’s not that I don’t like people, but interfacing with others is like using the most battery draining app on your device. After a few hours of chatting, dancing and dodging weird people, the human zoo will drain me. I will be good for the rest of the month if not season on socializing.

“You ready to go???”

JNET: (sigh of relief) “Yes!!!!”

If you’ve ever met me in the wild, count yourself lucky. You’ve experienced a JNET sighting. I probably researched the heck out of the place and the people that gathered. I studied maps and hailed the parking angels to meet me upon arrival especially if I’m venturing out by myself.
