I never figured out how to add photos after the item is published. However I finally have seen how to put them in when first adding. Being new on here lots to learn, and not all things appear easy... especially when compared to Facebook.

sign up and you can upload a photo. Once thats done click on the photo and it will give you a URL. Copy it and paste it to the little photo image on Steemit.
