Christmas : It is the birth of lord Jesus. He was born about thousand years ago.

Christmas : It is the birth of lord Jesus. He was born about thousand years ago, about three thousand miles away in an obscure village called Bethlehem. He was born is the least likely place any human being  will like to be born - in a cattle shed. It happened   because no one was willing to give shelter to marry, his mother, when it was time for her to give birth to her baby. Jesus died very young - when he was just thirty three years old. That is the age when we, ordinary mortals, start our own families and ream pf a bright an secure future. 

Usually we remember people who has achieved something in life. When we come across someone whose great achievements we admire, we find out the date of his/her birth and take care to note the date of his/ her death. The birth and death have any significance only because of the life of the individual.

Jesus is different. It is his birth and death that give meaning to his life. Jesus is the Son of God. His birth foretold thousands of years before he was born by God's messengers Known as prophets. Prophet Micah had predicted that Jesus would be born in Bethlehem. And many prophets has spoken about the future suffering and death of Jesus. This is particularly clear  in prophet Isaiah.

Jesus' birth was pre announced! He is the only person in history who had the power to decide to be born. From this it is clear that his birth had a purpose. He was born to tell us tat God loves us all because we all are his children. God is indeed our father. He also taught us that our real home is heaven where we will live for ever with our heavenly Father. However, we can not reach heaven on our own power. Since we all have sinned and we fall short of the glory of God our sins need to be forgiven. So Jesus suffered and died on the cross so that God may forgive our sins. Disciples have summed up this fact when he said: 

"God so loved the world that e gave his only Son. so that everyone who believes in him may not be lost but may have eternal life."

When one suffers with the love the life of another person is enriched. It is because our parents struggle and suffer that we have a good life. It is because a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies that is sprouts and because the cause of hundreds of new wheat grains!

During his life time Jesus taught us to love one another unconditionally. He also manifested a spirit of forgiveness. He asked us to look into our own lives before judging others. While dying on the Cross o a Friday afternoon, two thousand years ago,he prayed to God for his killers and said: "Father, forgive them"

Mahatma Gandhi loved Jesus ' teaching so much that he used to quote one of the messages of Jesus: 

"If any strikes you on the right cheek turn to him the left as well" 

This teaching of Jesus did from the back bone of India's non-violent freedom struggle.
