General introduction to the MUN world and USB-LAMUN

in #introduction7 years ago

Hello there. Welcome to my first post about the MUN topics. I'll try to explain the Basics of the MUN and USB-LAMUN.
So............

What's a Model of United Nations?: A MUN (Model of United Nations) is a simulation of the real UN, where people get to represent a country or a person on a committee where a problem is being discussed, with the main objective of making an integrative solution to the problematic. The committees go from real UN committees (SOCHUM, UNESCO, General Assembly, United Nations Security Council, etc), to committees not linked directly with the UN (Crisis Committees, Regional Organizations like the OEA and Arab League, etc).

How do you "MUN"?: Basically, you get elected or decide to go to a Committee, then you get a representation (A country or a person) and the problems that you are going to discuss, then you investigate you Representation's point of view of the whole problematic, and then you go to the Committee to negotiate a solution with the other's representations, so the final solution that the committee gets is a solution that benefits all of the representations, or the whole majority of them, at least.

About USB-LAMUN: As members of USB-LAMUN, we attend to most of the Models that we have here in Venezuela, the majority of them being only practice models between universities. The most important models we attend to are MOVENU (Modelo Venezolano de Naciones Unidas - Venezuelan Model of United Nations) in Venezuela, and MONUA (Modelo de Organización de Naciones Unidas de la Universidad de los Andes- Universidad de los Andes Model of United Nations), In Bogotá - Colombia. We are known to be one of the few bilingual delegations from Venezuela (because most of them are strictly in English), where we delegate in Spanish and English (Most of the people go with Spanish).

To accomplish our objective of going to MONUA in Bogotá, we search for funds and sponsors in every corner we can. However, the Venezuelan situation is not a lie to anyone in the world, and that situations affect us all. Our main source of funds are dollars that we can change in Bogotá. We have a gofundme Campaign for anyone that wants to help us (I'll link it at the bottom).

Every year, we have a selection process, where the Directive Joint choose the new participants of this amazing experience.

And that's all for today guys. For tomorrow I'll be writing about how a MUN committee is built and some preparations that we have. If you want to support USB-LAMUN directly, Don't forget to upvote and comment this post.
