Hello Steemit - A Brief Introduction

in #introduceyourself7 years ago

Hello Steemit!

I'm a 41 y/o IT professional from the Atlanta metro area in the United States. My primary work focus for the past 10 years has been in Sql Server Database (From Architecture to Admin), with side aspects around Infrastructure Architecture. I found out about Steemit from a recent hire, and am very interested in a social media outlet that is based on Blockchain, and is truly focused on developing content from it's contributors, as well as rewarding those that contribute the best content.

Outside of work, I love photography. I own a Nikon D7000, with 2 - 3 lenses of various quality. My day to day lens is the Nikor AF-S 18-300 F3.5, I purchased this lense because of the versatility in allowing me to use a single peice of glass to capture photos both near and far. The majority of photos I've taken revolve around my two daughters who dance competitively, meaning fast action in relatively low light.

Looking forward to participating in the community.

Please do! And I've followed you as well :)

Welcome! WOW 10 years of SQL.
I am back in school working toward my Computer Science degree. I have been mainly learning C++. I am starting to get a pretty good grasp on it but have a ton more to learn. I have a friend that recommended me learning SQL. He told me there are more jobs in database work.. I would love to find out what your thought are.
Thanks!

Hey Acromott,
I think it really depends on what your passion is. I was lucky enough to get engaged with data without a degree, and using data, figuring out the "best" way to build out data have been passion points of mine for as long as I can remember back to when my dad brought home our first "PC" in 1981-1982.

That being said, data definitely has a bright future, specifically in the ability to mine, to analyze, and to present it in a clear and understandable fashion. As a coworker reminded me the other day, very few people can natively understand a spreadsheet, but a well formatted presentation using data can be understood by all.

C++ is an extremely valuable tool, and often is the language used to communicate directly with "bare metal", as its use of memory, pointers and lower level syntax lend itself to extremely fast processing.

Either should be valuable - so go with what you LOVE to do.

My two cents. And thanks for the welcome!

Welcome to Steemit! My daughter dances as well and I have taken hundreds of terrible dance pictures. Any tips will be greatly appreciated!

Haha! I've taken thousands of bad dance pictures, but luckily among those thousands there have been a few of redeeming quality.

My strategy has always been, play with my manual settings until I get crisp pictures in the light level (Varying ISO and Aperture) , then vary my zoom depending on the size of the group and the required focus.

I'm lucky to have a pretty good camera body, that does a tremendous job with autofocus, but the ISO abilities in the new body were really key to me starting to get better long distance dance photos.

I'll be posting dance photos over the next few weeks as I get more familiar with the platform, so feel free to follow if I have content you think would be interesting.

Welcome to Steemit!! I have followed you. Please follow me back. Thank you!!

Followed - thanks for the welcome! :)

Welcome. I work in IT as well. Also do photography as a hobby. Where did you take the photo?

We were staying on Whidbey Island just over the sound from Seattle. Drove up to Deception Pass State Park and went for a hike. This was taken from an overlook trail as you climbed up towards the highest point.

Awesome! Welcome to the community. I've recently picked up some used Canon equipment to do higher quality photos with so maybe I'll pick up some pointers from your work. Looking forward to seeing it.
