5 Life Lessons I Learnt After Graduating From The University

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Remember when we were back in the University and all we wanted to do was graduate and leave the torture that was the University life and classroom (what were we thinking back then) well it’s been half a year since I graduated and the after school experience has not been easy. Reminiscing back on the school days in comparism to life after school, I have put together some life taught lessons I have learnt as a new graduate in the big bad world. Here are some worth sharing:

  1. Life Begins, whether you like it or not

One of the biggest lessons the after-school experience taught me is that Real life begins after school. Forget how tough your University days were, the real living kicks off after school where they are no rules, no classrooms, no organized lectures, life is the only teacher and he is ever ready to school you.

2.Life is a race but we all have different finish lines

Okay, so after graduating, a course mate by the Grace of God or connections got a well-paying job, relocated to Lagos and now lives what we consider to be the good life while I was still sitting in my mums house, broke, unemployed and trying to figure out what to do with my then miserable life. Thinking that I was wasting my life while others were busy achieving things always got me depressed until I realized that I’m running my own race and I will always come first at my own finish line. So right now, I focus on myself, taking baby steps to becoming the person I want to be someday

  1. You can’t win all your battles so get comfortable with losing

I remember when I interviewed for my first job, I was so excited and optimistic that I would get a call back, I even started day dreaming about how I would be dressing up for work every morning looking frosh and what I would spend my salary on. But unfortunately I never got the job and although I was so distraught, I realized that there were more battles ahead, some I would win and most I would lose so I buckled up and got comfortable with losing because I would rather try and lose then never try in the first place

  1. The world doesn’t care about Who You Are but What You Can Offer

Okay, this lesson doesn’t apply if your dad is Dangote or Adeleke because definitely who you are will open a lot of doors for you but if you are like the rest of us who come from loving but not super rich homes then what you can offer is definitely and always be more important then who you are. So my advice from this lesson is to go brush up your skills, develop whatever it is you can do because the world truly doesn’t give a heck about who your father is but what you as a person can bring to the table.

  1. Believe because It will definitely get better

I can’t elaborate much on this lesson because it’s one that I’m still learning and in a way struggling with but you have to believe that one day all the efforts and time and work put in will definitely pay out.
