Who am I? Why am I here (on this earth)?

Simply put, I don't think there's anything special in any human being. Human species is not special at all: it's just different, but we are on this travelling ground for the very same reasons dogs, cows, cats, flies, spiders, bacteria, viruses are here. Our biology is the same. Our incredible brain works on the same physics principles. It makes us different somehow, but this doesn't change the meaning of our existence. You may believe in gods, or in a God, or in a Superior Being Who Made Everything; you may be skeptic and atheist, and whatever you want to be. Just because you can think about it. It's great, but it still doesn't change the meaning of our existence.

Then what?

Nothing, but it doesn't mean everything is worthless. On the contrary, everything is incredibly worth because of and not despite this. The human being, as the only social being who can reason about it being a social being (as far as we know), can admire its own self contempling the world around and interacting with other human beings and the rest of the nature. We are aware of our awareness, that we can describe (almost!) and study scientifically.

To me this means that our value is given “only” by our awareness of the relations between whatever we think it's “us” (our brain, our mind, our soul, you name it) and whatever it's outside “us”. Which means not only rocks, trees, air, bees and so on, but also and more importantly to us, the others. So, our existence has a meaning as long as we are able to interweave our existence with the existence of other beings. Of course, because of our nature, we mingle particularly well with other human beings we can share something with, rather than e.g. dogs, cats, pigs, cows, bees, flies, spiders, trees… But it hasn't to be always and necessarily so, even though I expect it to be the most common case.

This can explain why it's so easy for us to fall in love with the Internet and the social things that breaks physical limits we were so accustomed to before. Now, we can reach potentially anyone, anywhere, and this can make us feel really special.

Of course there could be evil corners. But let's stay positive.

About me?

I live in Italy, I earn money by writing code in a couple of computer languages, mostly, but I am fond of too many things (beyond humans, I mean): writing (in Italian) always-to-be-completed novels and short stories, sometimes pretending to compose music, to create 3D scenes (raytracing), to be rational, to study or have studied philosophy, logic, history, mathematics, to understand the world and myself.

I believe this steemit thing is really interesting and I hope to be able to write compelling posts in this foreign language called English — I'm going to think about writing in Italian too, if there's enough momentum.

Live long and prosper.

Sort:

Some people get offended when they are compared to other creatures, they think they deserve a separate category and anything else is downplaying how wonderful they are. But isn't it more beautiful to see yourself as equal to all? I find it gives me a great sense of peace to not see myself above or below anything but part of everything.

Welcome to Steemit!

I can't do anything but agree with you: we are part of a whole.

Welcome to Steemit @xinta

Nice of you to join us here. If you write, you can participate in the 50 word story contest for new steemians for an opportunity to win big. The contest runs on @literature-trail, so check it out.

Thank you! I do try to write, but in Italian; I think that in order to do literature in a foreign language you need to know it very well, and it's not my case. Anyway, I will try if it seems to me I produced something valuable.

Welcome to Steemit! Sounds like you have all types of interestss, perfect for sharing on Steemit. Enjoy your time here. Post, vote, reseem, curate...have fun.

Thank you!

Welcome To Steemit

it's my pleasure
