Smart little dog Jack Russell Terrier!

Let me introduce my dog. You will see him very often in my posts :)
His name is Vincent. And we call him Vince. His breed is Jack Russell Terrier.

Yes, the same breed as in the popular film “The Mask” with Jim Carrey.

And Vince adores this film by the way.

A little bit about the breed.

Jack Russell Terrier is a breed of hunting dogs. It is a reliable companion and a passionate rat-catcher, capable of guard duty. It is very popular with English farmers. His hunting task is to find a beast in the hole, pull it out with a strong grip.

At the end of the 18th century, fox hunting was popular in Europe. Crowds of horsemen with faithful foxhounds chased the beasts to exhaustion. But sometimes a fox, surrounded on all sides, hid in a saving hole. Then the ancestors of the Jack Russell Terriers came to the stage.
The final of the hunting depended on these miniature dogs. The rider carefully took the pet out of the bag and sent it to the hole. A couple of minutes of barking, a furious snort - and the poor fox jumped straight to the chasers.

Why Jack Russell Terrier?

These dogs received their name in honor of the priest Jack Russell from the English county of Devonshire. By the way, he was known as a passionate breeder of horses, a hunter and a dog lover, and it was he who left his name in the history of this breed.
The creator of the breed Jack Russell was born in 1795 in Dartmouth. Being only 19 years old, he in 1814 seriously engaged in the breeding of the Fox Terriers. He achieved great success, devoting his favorite occupation almost all his time.

The very first terrier appeared at Russell in the student days - it was a woolly bitch. It was a dog that surprisingly conformed to the modern requirements for the breed: white coat color and a spot at the base of the tail.
Russell took great interest in hunting for foxes and it was for the purpose to breed a special dog for fox hunting on the basis of the Fox Terriers. Russell dreamed about his own breed of terrier, a brisk one, so that he can easily penetrate the fox holes, yet he is hardy, strong and not so small that he can easily accompany the horsemen and hounds chasing the fox.

The modern Jack Russell Terrier differs significantly from those that the priest breeded. Now it is an elegant little terrier with a characteristic temperament. W Jack Russell Terrier with shortened limbs, smooth hair - clever and bold little terriers, reminiscent of externally fox terrier. Today's Jack Russell Terrier is a dog of white and spotted color with recognizable auburn, lemon or black spots.
