Introduction ... :)
So... my first post... this is exciting! This is a brand new world for me and I can't wait to explore it, meet some like-minded people to have interesting conversations with, and hopefully make some new friends.
I'm Rachel, and I'm guess I'm what you would call a nomad. I currently have no home or permanent abode, and I have been living an alternative lifestyle and travelling the world for about a year and a half now.
I was born in Sydney, Australia which I have spent a lot of time in over the years, but I have lived in New Zealand most of my life. I absolutely love travelling, exploring new places, learning about different ways of life, and meeting awesome people along the way. I had already visited quite a few countries but in May 2016, I made the difficult decision to quit my hard-earned job, move out of my much-loved flat and leave everything and everyone I knew behind in order to travel the world on my own and without much of a plan (which I must say was very scary for me!).
Before I left I was a very organised person, but now I’ve been totally winging it and I’ve been loving the freedom and control over my life it has given me. I’m a firm believer that if you feel you are meant to do something then things will fall into place, and this has really been true for me so far as even though I quit my job, I was then given the opportunity to keep working remotely part-time which fit my new lifestyle just perfectly!
Since then, I have become very passionate about the remote and nomadic lifestyle, and I believe it opens up a whole new world of life opportunities as well as allowing you to fit work around your life, instead of having to fit your life around your work. I would love to inspire, discuss and create new opportunities for others who are interested in breaking free of society norms and instead live life in the way that we choose.
Since I began my journey, I've been sharing my experiences on my travel blog (http://traventurer.com) - mainly to keep my family and friends updated on what I’ve been doing, and also to keep a record of my experiences for myself. I've seen some absolutely stunning places and had some amazing experiences. And if other people happen to find my journeys and experiences interesting and want to follow along too, then that's awesome!
"You do not travel if you are afraid of the unknown. You travel for the unknown, that reveals you within yourself."
- Ella Maillart
Aside from my interest in travel, I am a big deep thinker and I absolutely love to ponder about life, people, psychology, relationships, mental health, and the deeper meaning of things. I find it very hard to do the whole "small talk" thing, and unfortunately I don't currently know many people that like to delve past the somewhat shallow parts of life. Partly because of this, I have never felt like I truly belong anywhere because something is always missing. The whole concept of Steemit and its encouragement to create and discover meaningful content has really intrigued me, and I am hoping that this may just be the place where I belong and that other like-minded people will be here too. I am looking forward to expressing my thoughts about life, people, the world and lots more in written form as I have always had a passion for writing, and I'm also very excited to follow along with other people's journeys too and learn new things!
If any of this sparks some interest in you, please say hello and share your thoughts, I would love meet you :)
Welcome to steemit!

Thank you for the welcome! :)
Welcome to Steem, @traventurer! What a fantastic journey you have had so far. To up and leave everything and wander off into the world; it is the stuff that many dreams are made of.
I have bookmarked your blog and will go back and peruse later. I am interested to knowing what type of work you were doing back home before you left, and how your parents are dealing with your lifestyle. I have three daughters, one of whom travels intensely, and while I worry about her, I do approve...
I think your life is a great basis for future posts here on Steem. I have upvoted your post and followed you. Feel free to follow me back.
Good luck and enjoy your journey!
Thank you so much! A lot of people say I am living the dream, which is true sometimes, but there are definitely hard aspects to this lifestyle as well.
Before I left, I had worked my way up to be a Quality Assurance Specialist at a NZ based company that is similar to eBay in NZ. I'm still working for them remotely but just doing Customer Service work now. Bit of a drop but it's worth it for the lifestyle it has given me!
My parents are very proud of what I've been doing which I'm very grateful for, as I know others may disapprove! I'm sure they worry about me too but I make sure to keep close contact with them online when I'm away and send them all the details of where I'm staying etc. It sounds like your daughter is having a similar journey too, is she working remotely or does she save up all the cash then go for extended amounts of time?
Thanks again for the welcome, I have followed you back too and look forward to hearing more from you :)
Welcome newbie. I’m so glad that you decided to join the steemit community and I know you will love it on steemit traveling the world how lucky you are. I have enjoyed my journey so far…don’t worry if you are confused in the beginning things will get better and you will get the hang of it. If you have any questions feel free to ask I love to help where I can. Just remember that you should try to enjoy your experience on steemit and try to make friends and interact with other steemit users…and in the process watch your bogging account grow just be patient. Good luck
Thanks very much! It's certainly a learning process, that's for sure! But I love the whole concept and it's something different with great potential :)
Really good first post, looking forward to your future ones.
Thank you so much! :)
Welcome to steemit. That's a very interesting blog to start with. It takes a brave person to drop whats comfortable and try for something new, so fair play to you.
Thank you very much! Yes it was the scariest thing I've ever done, but usually it's when you push yourself out of your comfort zone that amazing things happen :)
