Sur Place is a new kind of media organisation started right here in Montreal. It's a media co-op, a media outlet, and a creative agency for hire.

These three parts work hand in hand to let us tell stories that need to be heard.

How does it work?

Part 1

The Sur Place media co-op has a production studio, a co-working-space, great equipment, workshops, and a diverse group of members with every kind of expertise: everything that a creator needs to make web-TV, podcasts, and all other kinds of media. The members of the co-op have access to all of these resources and there is no cost to join.

Part 2

Sur Place has launched a YouTube channel and now a DTube channel with a stacked line up of shows, both fiction and non-fiction. From a Montreal superhero to an activist psychologist to growing your own medicine to interviews with influencers and rebels, from local bands to local wildlife and just a bit of genuinely crazy shit.

All of these shows are made by independent creators. By supporting each other we are growing a network of independent media that is free from being influenced by #$%^%$.

Part 3

Everyone has to make a living. With all of this talent, expertise, and gear, Sur Place can produce media for clients big and small. We work with local businesses and organisations to make original videos and experiences on contract.

Our members share the work and get paid professional rates. The small percentage taken by Sur Place helps us pay the rent and grow our organisation so we can make more shows and be more awesome. In the last couple of years, mainstream media has struggled to maintain credibility, relevance, and profitability.

It's time for independent media, rooted in the community and amplified by the web, to make real connections between people and tell stories about the world we want to live in.
