Hi Steemit! This is How I Became a Dad Through International Adoption.

This is my first Steemit post and although I do not consider myself to be a writer, I figured if I was going to write about anything, it would have to be about the best thing that has happened to our family…adoption. Hopefully our story will inspire those who are going through infertility and give hope when all seems lost.

My wife and I spent the first 7 years of our marriage building a loving relationship and trying to build the financially stable home that we felt our child deserved. When we decided that it was time to have children, it turned out that it was not as easy as many of our friends had experienced. After 2 years of trying and many doctor visits, we were finally diagnosed as “infertile”. Life for my wife during this time was extremely hard as ALL of our friends were having children. Every time a baby announcement was made (and there were many), I could not be happy as I knew that my wife was torn up inside and this meant that there were going to be many days of crying and questioning why we could not have a child.

We eventually tried a fertility procedure. When that did not work, the doctors said that with the medication, there was no reason that the procedure should not have worked. We knew the reason, our child was not supposed to be conceived by us and adoption was the answer. We started the adoption process in 2008 and initially started in the China program with a local adoption agency. I would like to tell you that it was quick, but it took over a year to get all of the paperwork together and once it was completed, we just waited and waited and waited. Finally after 2 years of waiting, we decided at our yearly home study that the China program was taking a lot longer (at least 3-6 more years of waiting) and an option to switch to South Korea became available. This was in early January of 2010. I will keep the story short, but we successfully switched programs at our adoption agency, and in June 2010 we got a referral for a little boy. We were ecstatic as our family was finally coming together. We only had to wait until October until we were able to hold our son for the first time. As I stated above, I am not much of a writer so I have a video of our son’s arrival that I would like to share. This is essentially the birth of our son and I am filled with tears of joy every time I watch it.

I am here to tell everyone going through infertility that God does have a perfect plan. It may not be what we plan, but I would not trade all the tears and the hurt that we felt during the previous 4 years as this boy is every bit my son. It is amazing how he looks like me, acts like me and his temperament is just like my wife’s. He is perfect for us in every way. We actually have had many people tell us that they are amazed at how alike he and I are. I also have another video of our son’s Gotcha Day which highlight his arrival and concludes up to his finalization hearing that has been viewed over 34,000 times on YouTube. Watch, enjoy and be inspired.
