introduceyourself: sofire

SOFIRE and how I came to be.

Contrary to popular belief, I did not choose this nickname for narcissistic reasons, bordering on 'too much self love', but rather was given this strange nomination in high-school, during a particular time in life when people would teasingly pronounce my name incorrectly. (Replace the 'RE' with 'A' and you will get to my actual name).

I now go by Sofire (only in the circle of friends and people who know me well), jokingly adding a well emphasized pause between 'So' and 'fire' and internally chuckling at how much I used to loathe the incorrect pronunciation of my given name.

I grew up in Germany, in a city with a beautiful cathedral and a type of beer whose name also stands for a German dialect: Kölsch.
(Fun fact: There's a saying that goes 'Kölsch is the only language you can drink.')

I certainly indulged in the German delicacies and culture over my time span of twenty years and have also been faced with inter-cultural differences, stemming from a Latin-American background. (More on that later)

I currently reside in a city in California that stands in stark contrast to my city in Germany - weather-wise (I can safely make an assumption that there are less than 50 sunny days in a year in Germany), food-wise (I definitely miss the Currywurst days) and culture-wise (Why does no one answer the phone by stating their last name first?).

My 'passe-temps' include reading French books (see what I did there?), throwing out things to create a less cluttered living space (And head-space) and drawing with my all-time favourite Faber Castell black pens.

So, this is me. In a nutshell.
