I brought to life the future jobs predicted at World Economic Forum 2018

Hello,

I’ve spent the last 6 weeks preparing a project which started last Tuesday and finished on Saturday at the World Economic Forum. I thought it might be the sort of thing that Steemit readers could be interested in and so thought this might be a good way to introduce myself as well!

I'm an ad creative in London, but this wasn't your typical 'FMCG' type job. The project I'd like to share with you is called ‘Tomorrow’s Jobs’ and it's for a global foundation called MiSK. MiSK has been set up to educate and prepare young people across the world to be the leaders of tomorrow.

Last year the World Economic Forum predicted that 65% of children at primary school today will have jobs in the future that don’t currently exist. So this year, we decided to bring them to life for MiSK as a way to engage people and inspire them.

Every day, during the World Economic Forum, I would listen to a high-profile panel discussion in the morning, taking notes, quotes and generally following the narrative of debate. These panel discussions included some really high profile people like Christine LaGarde (Managing director of the IMF), Steve Mnuchin (Secretary of U.S. Treasury), Ruth Porat (Google) and Sir Martin Sorrell (WPP) so they were really interesting to watch.

At the end of the discussion I would immediately have to create a futuristic job role based on what they had said. Sometimes this would be easy as the panel would have predicted a futuristic job role clearly, other times I’d have to create a job from the narrative of the conversation or by solving a problem they had noted in the conversation.

Once I had the futuristic job role created, I would then write a simple explanation of what this person does and would put together a basic illustration to brief our conceptual artist with. At around 12pm each day (UK time) after the client had approved what I’d come up with, I’d then brief conceptual illustrator Florian des Gainscourt over Skype. His studio is based in Montpellier and he has done loads of cool work for films including Jurassic World and the highly anticipated Spielberg film ‘Ready Player One’. Florian would work on the images in the day time, and we’d discuss them back and forth, screen sharing in Skype, refining them over the course of the day. At around 10-11pm Florian would stop working and we’d then get Happy Finish, a retouching studio based in London, to work on them through the night to touch up the illustrations and make them feel more paintlery.

Each morning the images would be released on social media and we’d tag the high profile panelists in them.

The turnaround on this job has been incredibly quick and in total, we’ve managed to create 6 futuristic illustrations in 120 hours, which I know the whole team is really thrilled with.
I hope you enjoy having a look at them as much we did creating them.

Thanks.
