It is still young and we haven't quite ironed out all the wrinkles, but slowly we are starting to develop a culture on how to behave well in a blockchain environment.

The biggest rewards have gone to those who persist and are consistent in their efforts. Additionally, there is a large number of communities using the Discord application to build communities external to the Steem blockchain front-ends.

If you have a Thursday free, you might try visiting @shadowspub's 'Pimp Your Post Thursday' meetings, either in the AM or the PM. A large number of people present their posts and talk about their vision in a formalized manner. Information on when and how to participate can be found here. In that setting, you will quickly bring yourself to the attention of many people and will find advice on where else you might find support on the platform.
