Lampulo Ship, Aceh Tsunami History Site

The Lampulo Ship or the often known Ship Above the House is a historical site that became a silent witness to the devastating tsunami. This ship is now immortalized into a historical tourist attraction with its own uniqueness that is able to attract tourists. imageShip Lampulo

Geographically, Lampulo Ship is located in Lampulo Village, Kuta Alam Sub-district, Banda Aceh. To reach the location of this tourist spot, tourists can use public transportation in Banda Aceh like labi-labi. In addition, it can also be reached by private vehicle which takes approximately 10 minutes from downtown Banda Aceh.

Lampulo ship is actually a ship owned by fishermen who are used to find fish at sea. The wooden ship was crushed by the devastation of tsunami waves dragged as far as 1 kilometer from Lampulo TPI. The ship was stranded up to the settlement residents, and stuck on one of the houses residents.

The Charm of the Lampulo Ship

The Lampulo ship is about 25 meters long and weighs 65 tons. Actually in addition to this ship, there are still boats and other boats are dragged strong tsunami waves like the floating ship PLTD. But the attraction for tourists, lies in the ship that seemed to stuck above the house owned by the citizens.

After Aceh recovered, the local government also took the initiative to renovate and build this place into a historical tourist site. Lampulo Ship Site was also restored, and built several facilities to provide comfort for tourists.

In this Lampulo Ship, debris can still be found from homes destroyed by the tsunami of Aceh. His condition was still preserved and unchanged from the original form. Tourists can see there is still a living room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom just below the ship.

In a room of the house, it has now been transformed into a mini museum to commemorate the earthquake and tsunami disaster in 2004. There are also photographs depicting the destruction of Aceh after the tsunami disaster. Travelers can also see, the names of people who become victims of the tsunami emblazoned in the simple room.

Lampulo ship has now built a kind of buffer made of iron, so that the position of this ship remains on top of the house. In addition, there is also a 5 meter high road built to facilitate tourists who want to ride see the ship. The government also repainted the ship, so it now looks more beautiful to look at.

Not only a mute witness how great tsunami waves that devastated Aceh, the ship is also meritorious to save tens of lives when the disaster occurred. At that time, residents were frantically looking for a high place to save themselves. Take them to the second floor of Mother Abasiah's house.

But the waves were so high, it almost drowned the entire house so that the people came into the ship to take shelter from the flood. Because this Lampulo ship, survived 59 residents from the village of Lampulo from the disaster including the owner of the house.
