[Introduction] Excited about learning something new and a little about @merej99

in #introduceyourself8 years ago (edited)

It's my first day on Steemit.com and I'm pretty happy about a new learning experience. Look at that! Using Markdowns already and jotting down notes like a kid with a brand new toy. Before I go exploring and see what this platform's all about, I just wanted to give a little introduction as to what kind of writing you may expect from me.

You see, I'm a professional writer, front-end web designer, and transcriptionist by trade. But I'm somewhat middle-aged and have world's of experience, hobbies, and passions that I write about. My goal is to produce high-quality content for anyone who dares to read it.

One quote which has always stuck in my head:

"Write hard and clear about what hurts."
Ernest Hemingway

Indeed, the older I've gotten, the smaller my personal filter has become. The bottom line is that people relate to people. In a writing forum, we make connections through our words. I am no longer a shy, scared kid. I'll write about anything of interest or personal meaning to me. I live and share my reality, but I do so love fiction too.

Subjects of Interest

Ah yes, they are broad and far-reaching. I love tech stuff, space exploration, news. I'm also budget-conscious, love cooking and baking, and have pets. I am fascinated with psychology and mindset. As a woman who was assessed with Asperger's as an adult, I have a ton of coping mechanisms that I share with people all the time. Because of my ability to compartmentalize, I've often been told that I have an amazing knack to be objective. Even in my own life story.

On the more macabre side, I was formerly the obituary department manager for a local daily newspaper; a professional singer (so I've probably been to more funerals than most people, and I struggle with the death of my father every day. COPING - yeah... It's what I'm good at.

I am also a creative writer. I weave stories of romance and horror - sometimes they are the same story.
But I digress, writing is an essential part of my life and I want to thank you for taking time to read a little bit about me.

I'm pretty active on SnapChat, Twitter and Facebook and will soon be launching a couple of podcasts! Like I mentioned, I LOVE learning new things and Steemit may soon be a regular part of my daily routine.

Have a great day!

HI merej99,
I realize that you wrote your introduction post 2 years ago. But hopefully, you will still get my response and respond to me. I stumbled across your post written about; Understanding Your Wallet:. I've been on Steemit since June 2017, but not consistently. I have my favorite authors that I check on periodically, to see what they may have written that I'm interested in reading about.

Ive invested $600 of my own money on here and written some good posts that earned me $2 0r 3 dollars. I got to where I could not afford the time to write daily, as Im a retired teacher back into teaching in an Alternative School full time. Teaching today's youth is draining and hard work. But I like the challenge and working with a wonderful staff.

However, I find writing to be my therapy to express my inner feelings about life in general. So, therefore Im going back to the kitchen table and write my story to post on Steemit. Im confused somewhat and I haven't found my sweet spot on Steemit yet. I've gotten advice to write a post daily and comment 10 times. With my work schedule and other chores that need my attention, I find it difficult to write a quality post daily. So, I think I will write when I feel like it. BTW what state do you live in? I live in Shreveport, Louisiana. It's good to read your posts. I will check in with you from time to time.

Hi @carolynseymour and welcome to Steemit!

When I first started here I tried to post EVERY DAY and comments were my bread and butter. Where I barely earned anything on my posts, it was my comments that earned more in the beginning days. The interaction is what kept me going.

Since you're new here, I don't want to overwhelm you with yet another platform but there is a really cool tool at https://Masdacs.io where you can cross post to Steemit, Golos and Whaleshares plus it leaves a copy of your post in the drafts folder on Medium.

More bang for your buck! Potentially posting to 3-4 platforms with one post :) With a teaching schedule, I can imagine that you are quite exhausted at the end of the day. We all know that a teacher's job is not done when the bell rings. kudos to you!

I personally don't visit golos and rarely check on my Medium page but I am active on Whaleshares. If you have the time, definitely visit us on Discord https://discord.gg/QXu7gzT

merej99, if you don't mind my asking, what are golos? Im familiar with Medium, and how does one benefil from Whaleshares? Just curious.
Thank you.

Golos is the Russian version of Steemit
Whaleshares is a different platform with its own blockchain and tokens if you're interested in diversifying your crypto portfolio without a huge learning curve since you're already familiar with Steemit

Other platforms depending on your interests might include Smoke.io for cannabis advocates and Scorum for sports enthusiasts, however, they are not linked to the cross-posting tool because they are niche topics.

fyi - I am launching a Community Engagement Challenge on Whaleshares. It's very similar to something I launched a year ago on Steemit. I am hoping that people use MASDACS to cross post and engage on both platforms :)

Thank you, @wang - I will definitely be checking out each of those links for further information. I'm having so much fun learning Markdown right now, I almost don't know what to do with myself. Oh yeah... Write more! LOL

Wang is a bot Mere, but he's a helpful bot so we like him :D
Great first post, Hope you will be sharing some of your fiction here with us.

LOL - of course Wang is a bot...because I love talking to inanimate objects. hahaha... (I'm an idiot) Anyways... No, I will probably not be sharing any of my fiction or my blog will never have any content! But I may write a summary/synopsis with a link back to it. :)

Welcome along. Look forward to your posts.

Thank you, @novagirl - I'm looking forward to the learning process. One day in and I'm hooked!

And a huge welcome to steemit from me :) hope you settle down and are happy in your steeming new home :)

Thanks @gowersgirl I'm looking forward to learning more about the site and possibly helping others out. The code for pretty posts isn't difficult. It's just a little different than traditional HTML but I think I'm going to like it here!

Awesome to have you on board!

Thanks for the welcome @steemster1 - but I don't understand why you have a history of down voting people.
Enjoy your weekend.
