Attempting To Bring My Talents To Steem

in #introduceyourself7 years ago

My name is Matt Wolfe and this is my very first post on SteemIt.

I've been a longtime blogger, author, and publisher but have yet to dip my toes into SteemIt until now.

About Me:

I’ve been teaching concepts like content marketing, affiliate marketing, business automation, and web development since 2007 and I currently run an education company with my business partner, Joe Fier.

Our flagship program is a monthly print newsletter that we mail directly to your door and it focuses on generating new revenue streams through the internet as well as how to leverage various online business automation tools. We have close to 300 subscribers paying $99 per month. We also sell various other online courses for one-time fees and generate healthy revenue through affiliate marketing.

I started as a freelance web designer in 2005, creating websites for retail window covering companies. It was a very niche market but I worked for a wholesale shutter company at the time so it was easy pickens'. I really got into writing and started blogging in 2007. This was a massive game-changer for me because it was the first time I started to generate income passively. It was the first time I realized that I could actually have assets that earned money for me even when I wasn't working.

I finally quit my job at the shutter company in 2009 to focus on building these online assets and educating like-minded entrepreneurs. I've been earning income through online courses, affiliate marketing, and selling advertising on websites ever since.

As of writing this, we're generating just shy of $100k per month between selling our own courses and newsletter, promoting affiliate products, and running various content assets that sell advertising... And I'm ready to add SteemIt and cryptocurrency trading into the mix as well!

Here's a screenshot of a few of our personal and affiliate accounts that I could quickly grab:

What I Intend To Share With You:

I'm super excited about the potential of the SteemIt platform. I've been blogging and creating a ton of content for the past 10+ years. I've got blogs, YouTube channels, podcasts, and a print newsletter so it's pretty safe to say that I LOVE creating content and teaching. SteemIt seems like the next logical step for me.

Topics that I love to blog about and share here:

I read a ton of books... At one point, I was reading a book a day for a stretch of 30 days. Recently, I've toned it way back but still manage to read at least two books per month. When I do read, I highlight the heck out of the book. I then take a ton of notes from my highlights and save them in Workflowy for easy reference later. Doing this really helps me lock in and retain the concepts from the books.

I've never shared my book summaries with anyone other than my business partner. I figure, if I'm creating this content and writing down all my biggest takeaways, I might as well share the wealth... I decided that SteemIt would be the perfect platform to share these summaries and takeaways.

Most of what I read is related to business, investing, mindset, biographies of successful people, and other personal development related topics. However, my tastes vary wildly and I'm pretty much open to reading anything. I'd love to share it all openly here.

I'd also like to share a lot from the topics that I teach every day... In our premium newsletter and courses, we teach things like:

  • Content marketing
  • Affiliate marketing strategies
  • Online marketing automation
  • Productivity and time management “hacks”
  • Wealth accumulation
  • Copyrighting
  • List building and email marketing
  • And much much more

Finally, I'd also love to share some random thoughts and ideas from time to time. I’m also interested in topics revolving around conspiracy theories, hacking, futurism, travel, diet, nootropics, mind altering substances, and much more. I’d love to share random thoughts and ideas from time to time as well.

Why You Should Follow Me:

I truly get an immense amount of enjoyment from teaching and helping people solve problems. It may sound a bit egotistical but problem solving is really one of my super powers. People who follow me can expect to become much more knowledgable in ways to earn more money, get their mental game on point, learn how to leverage their existing assets, learn to be better marketers, and just flat out be entertained.

If you follow me here on SteemIt, I promise that the content that I create will be well thought out, researched, educational, and, most of all, entertaining. I aim to help as many people as possible and my skills are pretty wide-ranging. It should be a good time for all.

A Couple Questions For You:

To be honest, I'm still really trying to understand SteemIt. I'd like to have a better understanding of the etiquette, the best practices, and what people actually enjoy reading here... It's my understanding that a first post often gets a few more eyeballs than other posts. With that being said, I'd love your help with a few things while I've got a little bit of attention. Maybe you can give me a couple quick answers in the comments?

Is it ok to repost existing content that I’ve already written?
I’ve got blog posts, newsletter articles, premium courses and more that all have amazing content. Is it considered in bad taste to repost stuff that I’ve already written on this platform in order to get new eyes on it and help even more people? Or is reposting considered bad etiquette?

Is it acceptable on Steem to discuss a wide range of topics?
I’m so used to my existing platforms where I only discuss one niche… Most related to content marketing / inbound marketing strategies. I was hoping to use Steem as a platform to discuss a much more varied range of topics. Is this a good platform for that or are we expected to “swim within our lanes” when it comes to topics?

Who are some of the best people on Steem to follow?
I’d love to learn more about the Steem platform and how to leverage it to the max. I’m also looking for more people that discuss similar topics to me. Who do you recommend I follow to get great content around leveraging Steem?

Here's something else I don't totally understand about Steem...

I appreciate you leaving a comment on my first post and am very grateful... But why does this comment get 10 votes and offers very little value to other readers while a few of the other comments that offered a ton value only receive 3 votes?

Hey Matt! Welcome to Steemit community, We hope you're going to enjoy it. You've made great introduction post, keep posting in a same manner and community will reward you. :) Good luck and steem on! @extremeromance

We are all lucky to have you in this platform. Your experience is evident in this intro post. It's just a matter of time and you will do really well here.

Here are some tips:

  1. If you have the time, it also looked like you like reading; spend a couple of hours to read the steem whitepaper to read about the technical side of steem.
  2. Invest when you get comfortable with the platform. This can be done both via using money or really taking time to post regularly. When you hold a larger steem power, your influence in the platform also increases.
  3. Follow likeminded people, a community in close proximity to you, and try to bring in people close to you into the platform. This will make your journey more enjoyable.

About your questions.

  1. It is okay to post your past works here. You will have to site the source if that can be found on-line, the community frowns at plagiarism. It will be really good if you can add some new updates if the article is old and newer information are available.
  2. It will be advisable to post mainly on a specific niche, then alternate with other things. You have to be known for something here that your followers will look forward to. Stay within the intersection of these three, your passion, what you are great at, and something you think the community will appreciate (less important than the first 2). For me just bring the awesome you!
  3. Who to follow really depends on you, make it a mix of people that inspires you, people you think have great potentil, and as I said people with like minds.

English is not my first language so I apologize for some errors.

Most importantly steem on!

Wow! Thanks so much for your well thought out reply! I would have never known English wasn't your first language. Thanks again for the tips. :)

Aaawww... This is a really nice compliment. That is one thing you'd learn here pretty quickly, engagement is no less important than producing well written contents. This is a social media platform afterall. People have to know of your existence. There are many ways to engage here, one very obvious way is through commenting in an engaging way, there are also discord channels that aim to help newer Steemians, and there's the steemit chat.

Welcome. It sounds like you've come to the right place to continue building on your existing accomplishments and portfolio. I think it's fine to repost your own original content. Others may disagree, but as long as it's your content, it should be fine.

As for your other question, yes, all topics are open for exploration, especially if your purpose is to explore them and not be concerned about the rewards that you get. Not all topic are as popular as others, but if they interest you, they will probably interest others as well.

I appreciate the advice. I was thinking re-posting my original content would be ok but thought I'd ask the community first. I'll always try to update and add unique twists to it just for people who follow me on Steem.

This can be a good place to network and advertise your other blogs, but I think adding updates and unique features, like you said, is a good idea.

Hello Matt, and welcome to Steemit. Your potential blog sounds great! I am interested in many of the same topics. I have not been here for very long, but I think it is okay to reblog here.

They do have a group that will take your writing and cross-reference it to the web, so it is a good idea to mention the reblog at the beginning of the posts, and put a link.

You can write about most anything. I write my main blog, but then write short stories, and enter writing contests too.

There are many people on Steemit to follow. Many are new, but are very interesting. We are called minnows, so allow yourself to swim and poke around until you find people you want to follow.

The dolphins and the whales have been here the longest, so they will have plenty of posts, and informational articles. I tend to follow people with a positive reputation. Anyone under 25 could be a bot, or trouble...

A couple of the helpful groups I have found are @ecotrain and @minnowsupport. But there are many contests, and groups who have their own chats, that you may find inviting.

Busy.org is an external site that you can use.

Steemd.com then /@yourname will show your activity, and your voting power.

You can promote on the Steemit chat, in #postpromotions once every two hours.

Hope you like it here! Have fun!

Happy Steeming- Sim Girl

Welome to steemit @mattw!

This was well formatted and written. Welcome to Steemit @mattw! Hope to see your blogs often and with respect to your questions, im quite new myself so i may not be able to answer. You have a new follower! Woo!

Thanks for jumping in on this. I'm a bit OCD (actually a lot OCD) so I try to put just as much thought into formatting and the layout as I do the content itself. I appreciate it when people notice. :P
