Hello! Masaki Okamoto here. (My name rhymes with Satoshi Nakamoto...) I'm originally from Japan, and I've been teaching music in Pakistan for 4 years now. I also produce electronic music, and I'm into cooking, technology and travel.

I've been writing about my experiences on my website and I look forward to doing the same on Steemit too, although I'm primarily interested in using Steemit as a place to share my music. That's what I did in my first music post the other day, and I'll be doing more of that. I'll post my second one shortly, indeed.

A lot of people have asked me why I live in Pakistan. That is, like, "why the heck are you in such a tricky country?!" Pakistan is actually nice to live in once you get used to it - especially in the capital city Islamabad where we have foreign embassies and therefore many foreigners too. Long story short, Pakistan is a place of opportunity for me because of my somewhat non-mainstream background. (You can read more about it here, if you'd like.)

I've also lived in Berlin, Tokyo, London and Boston after leaving my hometown in western Japan 25 years ago. I want to travel as much as I can, and I want to experience life in different countries without being confined to any one of them for too long. This is why I'm enthusiastic about technologies like blockchain and cryptocurrency. I got introduced to Steemit by a local crypto guru @graphicalx two months ago. A big shoutout and special thanks to him.

Hello masakiokamoto! Welcome to Steemit! Hope you'll like the community here. As a start, here are 5 tips that we believe will be helpful to you:

  1. Keep your passwords safe: Unlike conventional sites, Steemit has 4 types of passwords. Each offers varying degrees of access to your account, so know where and when to use each of them. Also, make sure to keep them all safe and secure.
  2. Get Steem rewards: When writing a post, you'll have the option to choose how to receive your reward: "Default 50%/50%" or "Power Up 100%". As of this moment, choosing Default 50%/50% is the better option. But this can change over time. Check our post to know more.
  3. Upvote wisely: When upvoting, wait at least 30 minutes after the post is published to maximize your curation reward. Also, make sure not to upvote too much too fast so as not to drain your voting power.
  4. Know your Steem, Steem Dollars and Steem Power: Steem and Steem Dollars are the 2 main currencies here. Convert and power up more Steem into Steem Power so you can have higher values on your upvotes.
  5. Have Fun and Enjoy!
