Hi! We do have two roosters, Zebra and Carl (named by the kids). We've hatched a few chicks last year, but we didn't seperate the broody hen with them, and the chicks didn't survive. We just started marking eggs yesterday- so we know which to leave in the nesting box and which to bring in to the kitchen- and we're going to try again.
Have you raised chicks from eggs? Do you have some pointers for me? We read a lot to try to learn how to do things, but some things are just trial and error. So, i think what we'll do this time (and anyone! Please chime in with words of wisdom! ) We'll let the broody hen sit on the eggs, then when they're ready to hatch we'll move them (eggs and hen)to another coop to let them hatch and grow up a little there first. Then maybe introduce them to the flock when they're a little older and can hold their own.
But yes! We want to have a reproducing flock. :)
