I think it is due to the high dramatic fluctuation and the high transaction fees which makes small transactions impossible.By the time a payment goes through the price of bitcoin could dip causing companies to loose money for the transactions, each incurring a new fee.Microsoft and other companies like valve would come back to bitcoin if only the volatility is brought under control.
