RE: The World's Most Dangerous Introduction Post (Part 2)

in #introduceyourself8 years ago (edited)

Looks like this one hasn't taken off like yesterday's yet. Hopefully it will. I have read both of your posts and they are quite interesting. I was around and on the internet in those days too. In 1996 I had a web page dedicated to teaching people how to program using C++. I had taught myself C++ using several books and programs that I had found at the bookstore. Back then there wasn't a wealth of information online so if any information was going to exist you were probably going to be the one to create it yourself. The thing that is so funny to me about web pages back then was that every page had a guest book on it. Now it is laughable to imagine each one of your guests signing your guest book. Anyway, I have followed you....... as I stated yesterday and I hope you are well.

Well, the whales-a-coming! LOL. I think it will do fine.

I purposely didn't do the guestbook, which I thought was crazy, nor did I have the Best if viewed with "XXX Browser" icons. I rolled my eyes at a lot of the junk content. So were you on Geocities? I knew some who were, and some of the comments indicate there were quite a few.

Geocities and then Angelfire. I can't even remember the address though. Yeah it was almost all junk content back then and with a little 15 inch 640 by 480 screen looking through it all it was extraordinary difficult.

Oooh, one of those guys. I wrote about this in the 90s, but I couldn't stand the small monitors. I got a 17 inch NEC (new) and later found an almost unheard of NEC 21 inch monstrosity late in the 90s, used. I think it was roughly 90 pounds. It literally fell off a monitor stand once, face down, but it didn't break. I always recommended people spend their $$ on a large monitor and forgo the other things... a good one will outlast 1 or 2 computers. Still pretty good advice! and I am sitting in front of a pair of 21 inchers today (unless one is 22 or 23, can't remember).
