Jacob Goes Off Grid Day 1

in #introduceyourself6 years ago (edited)

So..this is an introduction or something... I guess a good starting point is 'Hello...' and if someone says 'Nice to meet you' I then say 'We will determine that later...' with the most serious face I can muster and sometimes folks laugh and sometimes I don't laugh along with them but sometimes I do and those are the folks that I then enjoy barraging with my banter about my strange experiences of life here on earth living as a bi-pedal homanoid in the late twenty-first century lacking any physical indication that my ancestors had webbed feet or a prehensile tail and is thankful that the rock we travel upon at roughly sixty-seven thousand miles per hour through space around a nuclearly exploding sun has yet to have anyone control it's trajectory through said space or around said sun.

I went 'off grid' five hundred and sixty-four days ago and it has been quite the journey since I got dropped off at this old fallow farm and built (continue to build) all my own infrastructure. I have been video documenting the entire process and in time I hope that I can share some of them publicly. I have not made these videos public but I have been sharing them privately since I started the entire process which I call Jacob Goes Off Grid In The Woods. 'Day 1' is the morning after I arrived at this little place in the mountains in the 'dead of winter' on January thirteenth of two thousand and seventeen with my dogs, my wits, minimal gear and very little hard currency to work with. Slowly I have done my best to breathe life into a very old farm and give it all my best, 'learning as I go', and documenting the process as best I can. It has been quite the journey so far and I'm hoping to share here some of my experiences perhaps in a similar manner as I share on other platforms.

I was really hung up on writing this post for the last several weeks since my account was approved but now that I have all I really want to say is 'Hi. I'm Jacob.' @jacobpeacock

This video is the first morning after my arrival at the site. A friend of mine visited the site a few days before my arrival and left me a tent, tarp and a few other supplies that I needed. Upon arrival it was tricky to even find a place to unload all my gear (from a different friend's vehicle) yet alone find a good place to setup a tent. There were literally briers, brambles, wild-raspberries and multiflora everywhere except in the 'driveway' itself. It had also been raining a lot for several weeks before my arrival so everywhere was wet, mucky and slippery. This is the very first video that I make and it and the next seventeen days of videos I accidentally shot sideways with my phone so I had to rotate them before uploading them.

Yeh nice one man! That real life right there, and you got permission so you know it wont be a waste of time if no one can ask you to leave :)

For us Europeans that cabin is fucking humongous!! I see that you could make a very nice wind proof cabin, well downsize, inside of the existing cabin from all the other wall material. Nice to have dogs isnt it :)
Feel free to send me another link to the progress of the place!

Yeah it is often way too 'real' of a life. I would never do what I am doing without permission. As a property caretaker (land steward) it is a role that often accommodates my odd lifestyle choices which is a huge part of why I have spent much of my life doing it.

That shack (cabin) is big by my standards as well. I have lived happily in many places much smaller than it and I am not even European! :) I am also not some over-consuming arrogant American either so go figure. The shack itself though I have left largely as I found it other than some roof repairs and a few other things that I just 'had' to do for the time I spent in it. It was not (and is not) mine to do what I want with.

As for my current progress...once the video backlog is all uploaded to DTube I will start sharing current content. Until then I think it is best not to provide spoilers. I will say that I now have my own small area of the property that is mine to do with as I please with my homestead and whoa I fucking love it!

As for dogs..they are the joy of my world and it is well beyond 'nice' to have them.

Cheers and be well!
